About The Position

A growing engineering and architecture firm is seeking an experienced Managing Principal to lead a dynamic site-civil division. In this leadership position, you'll oversee all aspects of municipal infrastructure projects—from design through construction and administration. You'll manage a team of six engineers and play a key role in guiding the firm's direction in the municipal sector. This is a natural advancement opportunity for an accomplished professional currently in a senior or director-level role who is ready to take on principal-level leadership.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Kentucky
  • Proven experience in site-civil design and project management
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D for design and production
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience managing technical teams
  • Strong knowledge of project budgeting, scheduling, and contract administration
  • Experience managing projects in the education, commercial, and/or municipal sectors
  • Excellent communication and client presentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Established professional relationships within Kentucky
  • Experience with public pools and waterpark design
  • Advanced knowledge of construction documentation and construction administration
  • Familiarity with managing high-value projects ($5M–$10M+)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Principal-in-Charge and Project Manager on municipal projects including fire stations, police stations, public libraries, city halls, courthouses, community centers, and aquatic facilities
  • Hire, train, mentor, and supervise a team of six direct reports
  • Manage all phases of project delivery—budgeting, scheduling, planning, design documentation, and construction administration
  • Oversee project finances, budgeting, and contract negotiations
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships; ensure project success through quality work, collaboration, and profitability
  • Define, monitor, and control project scope, schedules, and deliverables
  • Supervise the integration of design and technical aspects of each project
  • Oversee final project phases and ensure all contractual requirements are met
  • Cultivate existing relationships and actively pursue new opportunities in the municipal sector
