About The Position

This position is responsible for designing and delivering high-quality physical education instruction aligned with California state standards for elementary school students. The role involves ensuring compliance with instructional time mandates, developing age-appropriate curriculum, utilizing differentiated teaching strategies, and assessing student progress. The teacher will also manage the classroom and facilities, collaborate with colleagues and parents, and maintain high behavioral and academic expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning (degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, or a related field preferred).
  • Valid California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education, or a Multiple Subject Credential with an added authorization in PE, is highly preferred.
  • Experience teaching physical education at the elementary school level within an educational framework aligned with California state standards.
  • Strong commitment to the mission, values, and high academic standards of Fairmont Schools.
  • Strong classroom management.
  • Proficiency in implementing school-wide health/fitness benchmarks.
  • A dynamic ability to engage young learners in physical activity.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver high-quality physical education instruction fully aligned with the California Physical Education Model Content Standards for Kindergarten through Grade 5.
  • Ensure all elementary schedules strictly comply with California state education frameworks, providing a minimum of 200 minutes of physical education instruction every 10 school days.
  • Progressively build age-appropriate units focusing on movement concepts, body management, locomotor movements, manipulative skills, and rhythmic activities/dance.
  • Utilize a diverse range of instructional methodologies to engage and accommodate students of varying abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles.
  • Develop and administer both formative and summative physical education assessments to measure student progress toward standard mastery; utilize assessment data to directly inform and adjust future instruction.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment across all teaching stations (fields, courts, and indoor facilities); enforce safety protocols and ensure optimal student-to-equipment ratios to maximize participation.
  • Actively collaborate with grade-level teams, cross-curricular faculty, school administration, and parents to support holistic student development and build community connections.
  • Model and reinforce high behavioral and academic expectations, cultivating a positive sociological and psychological environment where responsibility, inclusivity, and sportsmanship thrive.
