About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Managing Engineer for its Thermal Sciences Practice in New York, NY. This role involves applying fundamental engineering and scientific techniques to solve real-world problems in failure analysis, risk mitigation, and product development. The position also includes maintaining client relations and developing new business for the firm. The ideal candidate will manage projects from initiation to completion, communicate project updates, ensure high-quality work products, identify business development opportunities, manage client relationships, handle project and cost management, analyze complex data, perform laboratory experiments and computational modeling, review client experiments and simulations, research published literature, conduct risk assessments, and prepare reports, proposals, and presentations. The role requires managing projects efficiently under deadlines and conveying technical conclusions to diverse audiences including engineers, legal professionals, and business and industry representatives.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Aero-Astro, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical, Nuclear, Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field, with a practical and theoretical understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and combustion
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • 5+ years of post-graduate experience
  • Outstanding ability to apply fundamental engineering concepts to new problems
  • Hands-on experience in designing and executing experimental programs
  • Familiarity with technical documents and equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • P.E. license or willingness to obtain a P.E. license
  • Versatile, team-oriented, willing to travel when required
  • Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non-technical personnel, and clients, and present technical topics in a cogent and comprehensible manner
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and experience mentoring new consultants

Responsibilities

  • Managing projects from initiation to completion
  • Communicating project updates to other team members, clients, and administrative staff
  • Ensuring that Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work products and identifying business development opportunities
  • Developing and managing client relationships

  • Analyzing and distilling complex data
  • Performing laboratory experiments and analytical or computational modeling
  • Reviewing and understanding experiments and simulations performed by clients
  • Researching and parsing data from published literature
  • Conducting risk assessments
  • Preparing written reports, proposals, and presentations
  • Managing projects and maintaining efficiency under deadlines
  • Gathering information from and conveying technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, the legal profession, business and industry
