About The Position

Citi Commercial Bank (CCB) is seeking a Managing Director, Technology Banker based in San Francisco to further strengthen our Technology banking franchise and accelerate growth across the innovation economy. The successful candidate will serve as a senior coverage banker responsible for originating, developing, and deepening relationships with high-growth technology companies across the San Francisco Bay Area and broader technology ecosystem. The role will play a critical part in expanding CCB's market presence, increasing connectivity with venture capital investors, founders, management teams, and industry influencers, while delivering the full capabilities of Citi to clients. This position requires a highly respected technology banker with deep market expertise, established credibility within the technology sector, and a proven ability to originate business opportunities and build enduring client relationships. The individual will work closely with partners across Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Treasury & Trade Solutions, Markets, Wealth, and other Citi businesses to deliver integrated solutions and drive franchise growth. The role is intended to enhance Citi's presence within the Technology ecosystem and support the continued expansion of CCB's technology franchise, while aligning closely with Citi's broader Banking growth strategy in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Managing Director, Technology Banker will report to the North America CCB Digital, Technology and Communications (DT&C) head.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of commercial banking, corporate banking, technology banking, investment banking, or related financial services experience.
  • Proven Managing Director-level experience with an established reputation in the technology sector.
  • Demonstrated success originating, developing, and expanding relationships with high-growth and established technology companies.
  • Deep understanding of the technology industry, including software, fintech, internet, digital infrastructure, AI, technology-enabled services, and emerging business models.
  • Strong knowledge of venture capital ecosystems, private equity sponsors, founders, and innovation networks.
  • Significant experience advising clients on commercial banking, treasury management, lending, capital markets, and strategic financing solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial and corporate banking products, including cash management, derivatives, syndicated and bilateral loans, capital markets issuances, trade solutions, and working capital products.
  • Significant experience with credit decision-making authority, including complex capital structures and cross-border transactions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across businesses and deliver integrated client solutions within a matrix organization.
  • Established network across the San Francisco Bay Area technology and venture capital community.
  • Strong track record of business development, revenue generation, and franchise expansion.
  • Recognized industry expert with strong market credibility and executive presence.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and client management capabilities.
  • Strong business development orientation with a demonstrated ability to generate new opportunities and expand client relationships.

  • Deep technology sector knowledge and established relationships across the venture capital, founder, and innovation ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Support execution of CCB's technology growth strategy by increasing market penetration and expanding Citi's presence across target technology client segments.
  • Identify emerging trends, disruptive technologies, and evolving business models across the technology sector.
  • Provide market intelligence and strategic insights to senior leadership regarding opportunities, risks, and competitive dynamics.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for Citi within the San Francisco technology ecosystem and contribute to strengthening the firm's industry profile.
  • Develop and execute a client coverage strategy focused on growth-stage and VC-backed technology companies throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Originate new client relationships and expand existing relationships by delivering the full breadth of Citi's banking capabilities and fostering deep engagement across the firm's product and advisory platforms.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with founders, CEOs, CFOs, boards, private equity sponsors, venture investors, and senior executives across the technology sector.
  • Drive wallet growth through proactive identification of client needs and delivery of tailored banking solutions.
  • Partner with product specialists and banking colleagues to provide strategic advice and innovative financial solutions throughout the client lifecycle.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities within emerging technology subsectors and evolving business models.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with venture capital firms, private equity sponsors, startup founders, accelerators, incubators, and other key participants within the innovation economy.
  • Expand Citi's connectivity across the technology ecosystem to enhance market intelligence, client acquisition, and franchise development.
  • Represent Citi at industry conferences, forums, networking events, and thought leadership opportunities.
  • Drive industry thought leadership internally and externally through market insights, client events, and strategic engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of competitive positioning, capital flows, emerging technologies, and sector developments.
  • Collaborate closely with partners across Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Treasury & Trade Solutions, Markets, Wealth, and other Citi businesses to deliver a coordinated "One Citi" approach.
  • Drive innovation through the development and delivery of industry-specific solutions in partnership with product specialists and subject matter experts.
  • Identify opportunities to bring the full breadth of Citi's capabilities to technology clients across their growth journey.
  • Help deepen connectivity between CCB and Banking teams in support of broader franchise objectives in the Bay Area.
  • Maintain strong credit and risk discipline while supporting sustainable business growth.
  • Partner with Risk, Credit, and Underwriting teams to evaluate opportunities and ensure activities are consistent with Citi's risk appetite and policies.
  • Exercise sound judgment in balancing risk and return objectives while delivering solutions that meet client needs.
  • Ensure all business activities are conducted in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, Citi policies, and governance standards.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, safeguarding Citi, its clients, and its reputation.
