About The Position

The Managing Director of Impact will work with the Impact Department to lead City Year Bay Area’s school-based service strategy, district partnerships, and measurable student impact. The Managing Director of Impact is responsible for developing and implementing the site’s education partnership vision, ensuring high-quality implementation of City Year’s Whole School Whole Child model, and supporting the collection, use, and communication of student-level data to meet AmeriCorps, City Year, and school district goals. On a daily basis, the Managing Director of Impact will lead and coach Impact Department staff, collaborate with site leadership and district partners, oversee implementation quality, strengthen AmeriCorps member experience, and use data and feedback to improve service delivery. This role reports to the Executive Director and serves as a member of the site senior leadership team, contributing to cross-functional priorities and site-wide initiatives.

Requirements

At least 7 years of relevant experience in education, youth development, nonprofit program leadership, school partnership management, or comparable work.
Demonstrated people management experience, including coaching, performance management, and developing staff to deliver strong outcomes.
Experience working with school districts, schools, or education partners to advance student outcomes and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
Demonstrated ability to use data, feedback, and structured planning to improve program quality, implementation, and impact.
Authorized documentation to work in the United States of America.
Criminal background history clearance to work with school-age children, depending on position requirements.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with or for Bay Area school districts, including Ravenswood City School District and/or Alum Rock Union School District.
City Year or AmeriCorps experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and data-informed planning or reporting tools.

Responsibilities

Lead the development, implementation, review, and evaluation of City Year Bay Area’s Whole School Whole Child strategy, service model, and content management approach.
Ensure service is implemented with fidelity to the model by aligning staff practices, AmeriCorps member observations, Early Warning Indicator processes, and student-level data collection and use.
Use corps member, staff, school partner, City Year network, and student data feedback to identify strengths, address areas for improvement, and recommend training, resources, and service enhancements.
Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop district partnership strategies and manage strong, sustainable relationships with Ravenswood City School District, Alum Rock Union School District, and other education stakeholders.
Maintain routine communication with key district partners and ensure school district staff are informed, invested, and aligned to shared goals for student impact.
Monitor the current education environment, participate in relevant external meetings or work groups, and communicate developments that may affect City Year Bay Area’s education vision and service strategy.
Set vision and manage performance for the Impact Department by aligning goals, monitoring progress, and fostering an environment of belonging, collaboration, accountability, and inclusion.
Coach and develop Impact Department staff through regular supervision, feedback, development planning, and support for high-quality execution of school service and AmeriCorps member experience.
Partner with site leadership and cross-functional teams to align department priorities, resolve implementation challenges, and support site-wide initiatives.
Work with the Executive Director and Chief of Staff to develop and maintain the Impact Department budget, including expenses related to AmeriCorps member experience and school service needs.
Approve and manage spending strategies in coordination with operations and development colleagues to ensure resources are used effectively and grant-related criteria are supported.
Identify resource needs and cultivate internal and external support to advance Impact Department goals and strengthen service delivery.
Work with the Impact Department and full staff team to support a positive, meaningful AmeriCorps member year of service.
Support communication, engagement, recognition, and celebration efforts that contribute to AmeriCorps member belonging, development, and retention.
Participate as an active member of the City Year national network, including relevant meetings, communications, and network initiatives that advance service quality and organizational learning.
