About The Position

Reading Partners is a leader in solving the literacy crisis by leveraging community volunteers in under-resourced schools. Our program provides one-on-one tutoring to students, proven to help them master reading fundamentals. We are seeking a Managing Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (MDFP&A) to join our Finance and Accounting team. This role leads the FP&A function and reports directly to the Chief Financial and Operations Officer (CFOO). The MDFP&A will provide business and financial advice to the CFOO and budget leaders within a national, distributed organization. Responsibilities include assisting in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports and analyses for national departments and regional Executive Directors, serving as a liaison between national and regional teams, and providing support to other Finance functions like the month-end close process. The position will manage a team of two to maximize student outcomes through efficient financial resource allocation. The work is rooted in supporting leaders with high-quality financial information and advice. This position is remote but requires candidates to reside within specific Reading Partners’ operating locations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant job experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A) in roles with increasing responsibility
  • 3+ years of people management and leadership experience in the finance sector
  • Experience managing a team within a finance department
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to successfully convey financial concepts to non-finance colleagues
  • Able to adapt to changing organizational needs and priorities and juggle multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Strategic and analytical thinking abilities and strong problem-solving skills
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Excellent professional judgment
  • At least an intermediate experience level in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to prove eligibility to work legally in the U.S. and that you are at least 18 years of age

Responsibilities

  • Provide key support to the CFOO with the annual strategic planning process.
  • Build financial models and forecasting tools that allow for long-term scenario planning.
  • Play a lead role in the creation of our annual budget and develop prudent and realistic forecasts.
  • Lead annual budgeting process and monthly forecast process.
  • Prepare monthly reporting of financial performance and variance analysis of financial results by region/function.
  • Support the executive leadership team in the stewardship of its key financial metrics.
  • Collaborate with budget owners, development teams, and the regional operations team on cash flow forecasts.
  • Partner with national and regional leaders to provide financial support and guidance.
  • Advise budget leaders on fiscal operating decisions and collaborate with them to achieve financial sustainability goals.
  • Analyze trends in spending and behavior to maximize resource allocation and results.
  • Prepare financial reports and other materials for the quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
  • Oversee operational excellence by evaluating, refining, creating, and supporting systems and processes.
  • Enhance the use of Adaptive Insights (financial planning software), including integrating with third-party software, developing reports, and creating dashboards.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports to funders/donors.
  • Manage all financial information, including support documentation for grant reports and proposals.
  • Track and report compliance with line of credit covenants.
  • Guide employee performance management and support the professional development of team members.
  • Lead planning and facilitation of team and department meetings.
  • Participate in Leadership Team (LT) meetings, retreats, and collaborative spaces.
  • Collaborate closely with national departments to support financial reporting, documentation, and processes.
  • Establish great working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Open doors, make connections, tell a compelling story through data, and create pathways to ensure financial sustainability.
