About The Position

The Managing Director of Finance serves as the organization's senior finance executive and is accountable for the development, execution, and continuous improvement of T3's financial strategy, compliance framework, procurement governance, and overall fiscal stewardship. As a key strategic advisor to the CEO, COO, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors, the Managing Director of Finance provides financial leadership, analysis, and recommendations that inform organizational decision-making, resource allocation, risk management, and long-term sustainability. The Managing Director of Finance is accountable for the integrity of the organization's financial operations, the effectiveness of internal controls, the stewardship of organizational assets, compliance with financial and regulatory requirements, and the overall financial health and sustainability of T3. In addition to overseeing finance operations, the role manages key external vendors and professional service providers, ensuring effective service delivery, fiscal accountability, and alignment with organizational priorities. The position also provides executive-level oversight of technology investments, contracts, and vendor relationships to ensure technology solutions support organizational effectiveness and business continuity. This position leads the organization's finance, procurement, vendor management, and financial compliance functions and is responsible for ensuring these functions effectively support T3's strategic priorities and operational excellence.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required
CPA required
At least seven (7) years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience, including staff supervision
Strong knowledge of nonprofit GAAP and fund/grant accounting
Experience with grants management, compliance, and reporting required
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
High-level proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, Word etc.)
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
Excellent written and visual communication skills.
Capable of distilling complex educational and workforce content into clear, engaging, and actionable messages.
Strong project management skills; experience using tools such as Asana or Trello.
Comfortable managing through ambiguity and adapting to fast-changing environments with a solution-oriented mindset.
Ability to balance strategic innovation with disciplined execution, aligning experimentation to clear goals.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Salesforce, data integration tools (e.g., Jitterbit, MuleSoft), or educational data platforms is strongly preferred
Proven track record overseeing technology operations or managing enterprise systems, preferably in a nonprofit, education, or government setting
Experience supervising technical staff or cross-functional teams
Experience with digital platforms and enterprise systems such as Salesforce and ETL pipelines is a plus.

Responsibilities

Supervise all finance team members, providing coaching, mentoring, and conducting annual performance reviews.
Lead the development, documentation, and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Lead the development and execution of the organization's long-range financial strategy, annual financial plan, multi-year forecasts, and sustainability models, presenting recommendations to executive leadership and the Board.
Direct organizational financial planning, scenario modeling, and decision-support analyses used to guide strategic and operational investments.
Lead preparation of all Finance Committee materials and present recommendations regarding financial performance, forecasts, reserves, investments, risk management, and fiscal sustainability.
Own the preparation, presentation, and interpretation of all financial reports, annual budgets, forecasts, and audit results presented to executive leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors.
Establish and maintain organization-wide financial reporting standards, performance metrics, and financial accountability systems.
Manage the monthly closing process, including review of journal entries and bank reconciliations.
Manage daily cash flow and liquidity needs, including internal fund transfers.
Prepare payroll-related journal entries, including benefit and allocation adjustments.
Produce timely and accurate monthly financial reports including: Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities with budget-to-actual and variance analysis, Cash Flow Statement or Rolling Forecast, Executive Summary Memo for Management.
Approve and oversee all grant proposal budgets and financial assumptions to ensure compliance, sustainability, and alignment with organizational financial strategy.
Partner with the Development team to prepare grant proposal budgets and financial documentation.
Maintain an external grant reporting calendar and ensure all financial reporting to funders is accurate, timely, and compliant.
Track grant-related deferred revenue and grants receivable.
Direct grant budget management and hold program leaders accountable for financial performance, budget adherence, and compliance with funding requirements.
Proactively resolve under- or overspending through budget modifications, extensions, or internal reallocations.
Provide internal budget reports and financial support to program and operations staff.
Lead and govern the organization's procurement function, establishing purchasing standards, approval authorities, and procurement practices that ensure fiscal accountability and operational efficiency.
Develop, implement, and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and internal controls that promote fiscal stewardship, transparency, and accountability.
Ensure purchasing activities comply with organizational policies, grant requirements, donor restrictions, and applicable regulatory standards.
Oversee competitive bidding, vendor selection, contract review, and purchasing approval processes, as appropriate.
Monitor procurement activities to ensure cost effectiveness, operational efficiency, and responsible use of organizational resources.
Partner with department leaders to support purchasing decisions, budget planning, and resource allocation.
Serve as the final approval authority for procurement recommendations and purchasing decisions within established delegation limits.
Establish procurement performance standards and ensure compliance across all departments.
Serve as the executive owner for key organizational vendor and professional service provider relationships.
Lead contract review, negotiation, renewal, and termination processes in partnership with organizational leadership and legal counsel, as appropriate.
Monitor vendor performance against contractual obligations, service-level expectations, project deliverables, and organizational goals.
Establish performance measures and accountability structures to evaluate vendor effectiveness and return on investment.
Oversee relationships with key service providers, including but not limited to accounting firms, auditors, payroll providers, technology vendors, consultants, and outsourced operational partners.
Make recommendations regarding vendor selection, contract renewals, vendor transitions, and termination decisions.
Lead the annual audit, financial review, and compliance processes, serving as the primary organizational contact for external auditors and regulatory reviewers.
Direct the preparation of Form 990, annual financial statements, and required regulatory filings.
Lead the organization's annual budgeting process and financial forecasting cycle, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and organizational sustainability goals.
Provide executive oversight and governance for technology investments, vendor relationships, cybersecurity risk management, and technology-related budgeting.
Set clear goals, monitor performance, and support professional development across the Technology department.
Ensure effective coordination and collaboration between Technology, Program, and Operations teams.
Collaborate with the Technology team to assess system needs, operational risks, and ensure data security, compliance (e.g., FERPA), and business continuity.
Work with the Technology team to develop annual budgets, manage vendor contracts, and ensure efficient and cost-effective investments in IT infrastructure and tools.
Monitor IT project timelines and performance metrics to ensure technology solutions support scalable and sustainable impact.
