About The Position

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. This position is responsible for the complete management, supervision and coordination of the operation of the Sink Natatorium (i.e. scheduling of pool hours, lifeguards, etc.). This position will serve as the director and will administer all aspects of the Learn to Swim Lessons Program, along with assisting in all management aspects of the men’s and women’s NCAA intercollegiate swimming and diving programs in accordance with institutional, NCAA Division II and Conference bylaws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 18 months of related coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, rules and regulations of athletic associations and conferences including eligibility, recruiting and certification.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public.
  • Strong organizational, oral and written communication, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications (Hy-Tekch Team & Meet Manager, Colorado Timing System, etc.).
  • Ability to mentally and physically perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to protect confidential information and present a professional demeanor.
  • Team-oriented individual with willingness to take initiative and be flexible, and the ability to work under occasional pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively with an ethnic, cultural and diverse student population.
  • Valid driver’s license, CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguard certification and safe driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer all pool usage including scheduling for internal and external events/offices. Maintain daily facility calendar for pool usage by Varsity program at the University, as well as outside groups such as local high school and swim club teams.
  • Learn and educate others on the use of new tools with computer software/hardware for swim meet management, while providing training for additional swim meet managers for internal and external use of Colorado Timing System.
  • Work in tandem with University facility department for additional requests, including summer programming, insurance documentation, and billing.
  • Ensure safety needs for all participating groups through scheduling of lifeguards.
  • Organize, schedule, and administer all aspects of the Oiler Swim School program, including but not limited to develop and maintain a business plan to allow for maximum fundraising and all marketing aspects of the team.
  • Direct and assist in correspondence with participant families regarding scheduling, instruction level, and facility instruction.
  • Design and implement instruction procedures for all swim lesson teachers through in-water demonstration and in-class learning.
  • Implement and develop skills for supervisory positions that ensure overall safety and satisfaction of a swim lesson program.
  • Develop lesson level programming to ensure children improve aquatic knowledge and skills.
  • Assist the development, review, and implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
  • Implement safety procedures for facility, through guidance and complements to local health guidelines, as well as American Red Cross lifeguarding protocols.
  • Provide necessary facility recommendations to policies and procedures based on new state requirements.
  • Update facility policies and procedures twice annually to ensure higher quality for participants and employees.
  • Follow local guidelines on emergency action reports, enacting new protocols when requested by department officials.
  • Inspect aquatic facility and equipment, prepare and distribute reports on maintenance requirements in a timely fashion.
  • Develop and maintain records to document chemical balances of pool to insure compliance with local and state health and safety requirements.
  • Provide safety and cleaning protocols to internal and external groups.
  • Direct and supervise maintenance staff as necessary to insure safety protocols are met.
  • Represent University with Board of Health as it completes pool inspections for compliance with health and safety requirements and makes recommendations for modifications to physical facilities.
  • Follow protocols to ensure all guidelines and requests made during inspections are implemented and followed.
  • Supervise, schedule, and train student workers and lifeguards.
  • Maintain current CPR/AED and Lifeguard certifications from the American Red Cross.
  • Update policies and procedures for the Sink Natatorium semi-annually.
  • Hire and supervise new student employees for various aquatic positions.
  • Lead in-service training, instructing staff on updated rescue training for lifeguards and refresh staff on preexisting lifesaving techniques.
  • Analyze job performance capability following each semester to ensure staff remain able to effectively provide coverage at the Sink Natatorium.
  • Maintain detailed records of staff certifications and emergency and incident reports.
  • Assist recruiting for the men's and women's swimming and diving program, identifying and evaluating potential student-athletes and organizing their recruitment in conjunction with the Office of Admissions to meet recruitment and retention goals.
  • Assist in year-round directive for retention, ensuring a safe environment for current and future student-athletes.
  • Assist the head coach in scholarship budgeting for prospective and current student-athletes.
  • Speak with and guide families regarding college application, financial aid application, and academic program application processes to provide the best possible outcome.
  • Assist administration of intercollegiate athletic program in compliance with the University, NCAA, and Conference rules and regulations as required.
  • Follow provided online educational resources to ensure compliance as an NCAA coach.
  • Pass modules the NCAA allocates annually to ensure proper education on new legislation is current.
  • Assist in practice preparation, on-deck coaching, and planning physical conditioning.
  • Direct small and large group practice.
  • Implement periodization model for practical use in a modern swimming and diving program at the collegiate level.
  • Assist strength and conditioning coaching staff, athletic training staff, among others in providing safe practices to reduce and prevent injury.
  • Consult with student-athletes regarding discipline, academic progress, and personal growth.
  • Meet individually with student-athletes to provide proper guidance for mental health needs.
  • Prepare correspondence with outside organizations who provide additional learning for student-athletes.
  • Design and implement individualized academic programming for student-athlete well-being and academic success.
  • Represent the University in a positive manner and heighten the awareness of the institution to all of its constituents.
  • Participate in on-campus events at the request of the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
  • Perform all other duties deemed appropriate for the position.
