About The Position

ConnectALL seeks a full-time Managing Director to coordinate strategic planning, drive key initiatives, and support high-level relationships with external stakeholders. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Managing Director will help ConnectALL anticipate challenges and act on opportunities while responding to requests from state government executives and changing conditions in the sectors in which ConnectALL operates. The role requires in-office presence; hybrid schedules may be possible depending on job duties and ESD policy. Travel is required in support of ConnectALL projects and stakeholder engagement events.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; an MPP or MPA may replace years of work experience.
At least five years of relevant experience, including at least three years in one or more of government, government-sector consulting, economic development, public policy, government affairs, organizational or campaign strategy, or related business or nonprofit areas.
Deep understanding of government and policy operations in New York at state, regional, and local levels.
Expert knowledge of the broadband sector, specifically in New York.
Experience leading complex projects and collaborating across multiple teams or organizations.
Experience supervising staff, leading teams, and contributing to a growth-mindset culture.
Experience strategically engaging diverse stakeholders and negotiating complex political relationships with grace and diplomacy.
Strong organizational strategy skills and the ability to develop and assess new ideas.
Organization and attention to detail, ability to manage multiple types of work simultaneously, and ability to switch contexts quickly.
Excellent communication and public presentation skills.
Demonstrated interest in and passion for broadband infrastructure and digital equity, adoption, and literacy programs.
Commitment to closing the digital divide in New York and ensuring ConnectALL solutions are equitable and just.

Internal candidates may qualify with at least five years of satisfactory service in another relevant position with Empire State Development; up to two years of accredited post-secondary education or U.S. military service may be substituted for ESD service.

Nice To Haves

Background in project management, business development, and/or strategic planning.

Experience in government, particularly knowledge of New York State government, and familiarity with federal and state broadband funding programs.
Experience and comfort dealing with government officials, private companies, and community leaders across New York.

Responsibilities

Support the Senior Vice President in directing ConnectALL’s long-term strategy.
Work with the Vice President for Program and Operations to monitor ConnectALL performance and anticipate future challenges.
Manage the startup of key initiatives, develop resource and staffing plans, oversee implementation, and hand initiatives off to directors or managers as appropriate.
Advise the Senior Vice President on engagement with key stakeholders and stand in for the Senior Vice President as needed.
Brief elected officials and other key stakeholders on ConnectALL programs.
Help the Senior Vice President and senior ConnectALL staff respond to time-sensitive, complex requests.
Travel in support of ConnectALL projects and stakeholder engagement events.
