About The Position

Modern Family Law is a rapidly expanding national law firm specializing in Family Law, seeking a driven, compassionate, and experienced Managing Attorney to join their team in Petaluma, CA. This role is hybrid, and the Managing Attorney must live within driving distance of the office. The Managing Attorney will oversee the day-to-day operations in the Petaluma office while handling diverse family law cases and making a meaningful impact on clients' lives. This position is critical in ensuring the productivity and profitability of the office by balancing legal expertise, team mentorship, and operational management. Modern Family Law offers a remote-first setting with brick-and-mortar space available, a low billable hours requirement (90 per month), direct client contact, competitive compensation, and a wide array of benefits. Learning and development support is also provided, and employees are eligible to work from anywhere after 6 months.

Requirements

  • Active admission to the California State Bar
  • Must be within commuting distance to our Petaluma, CA office
  • Skilled in mentoring and leading a team, while fostering collaboration.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with a client-focused mindset.
  • Proficient in client counseling, case prep, case management, and courtroom representation.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written legal communication.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Committed to delivering excellent client service.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) or more years of devoted Family Law experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations, productivity, and profitability of the Petaluma office.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop legal staff through training, motivation, and support.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition and HR on recruitment and policy compliance.
  • Coordinate with other leaders to ensure cross-departmental support.
  • Conduct client consultations and provide legal advice on family law matters.
  • Represent clients in court, prepare legal documents, and negotiate settlements.
