About The Position

Waterway is hiring for its renowned Manager Training and Development Program in the Chicago Area. This program offers the opportunity to gain business and people management experience while being active and outdoors. The Learn to Lead® Manager Development Program teaches participants how to run the Waterway business, with the goal of preparing them to run any business. Successful candidates are highly motivated individuals seeking significant business and people management experience, recognition for hard work, and a clear path for advancement. Waterway seeks energetic leaders with the ambition and skills to progress rapidly through the structured Learn to Lead® program. The program is unique in its highly structured approach with distinct levels, defined training, and clear objectives. Participants receive mentorship throughout the program. The role involves running a Waterway location and leading a large team of hourly employees, focusing on leadership, coaching, mentoring, and role modeling.

Requirements

• Current and valid driver's license.
• Must have an associate’s degree or above (or be a current college senior) OR at least 2 years’ experience in Supervisory or management experience (preferably in retail or hospitality), Professional Sales (B2B or B2C), or Military Leadership.
• Available to work a retail schedule (5 of 7 days, 45 hours, including weekends and holidays).
• At least 16 years of age.
• Authorized to work in the US and not require sponsorship now or in the future.
• Fluently speak and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service by leading by example, greeting customers, identifying needs, selling services, and resolving concerns.
• Build customer satisfaction, repeat business, and loyalty through great service and positive experiences.
• Effectively manage daily operations, lead and manage the team to meet customer expectations.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment, including outside areas, gas pump islands, payment terminals, tunnel entrances, and customer waiting areas.
• Coordinate daily store production through planning and execution, staffing based on forecasted needs and adjusting to demand.
• Ensure stores are opened and staffed correctly, and closing procedures are followed with assets secured.
• Maintain high service standards by managing quality and customer service, performing quality checks, coaching the team, and identifying improvement trends.
• Complete administrative tasks punctually and accurately.
• Respond to and resolve customer and employee concerns and issues.
• Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns or failures.
• Monitor and manage store inventories.
• Complete regular audits to ensure store appearance and safety standards are met.
• Provide daily direction and coaching to employees to enhance performance and satisfaction.
• Coach, mentor, and develop employees, providing effective orientation, training, and feedback.
• Create and maintain a positive, professional, and safe work environment aligned with Waterway’s culture, mission, and values.
• Create weekly employee schedules ensuring sufficient labor coverage, meeting business demands and employee needs.
• Perform other safety, cleaning, and maintenance tasks as needed.
• Be trained and able to perform essential functions of all hourly positions.
• Support, enforce, and follow Waterway policies, procedures, guidance, and instructions, especially those related to safety.
• Report any damage or injury in a timely manner, following established procedures.
• Perform various other functions as identified and directed by management.
