About The Position

UPM Specialty Materials is seeking a Technical Sales Manager to support their business in the Americas. This role involves combining technical expertise with commercial insight to assist customers, identify new business opportunities, and deliver value-driven solutions. The successful candidate will collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to address technical challenges, develop customer-focused solutions, and support paper projects from concept to commercialization. Responsibilities also include building relationships across the value chain, leveraging market insights to anticipate trends, and identifying opportunities for innovation and sustainable growth. Requirements

  • Relevant commercial degree/education and technical understanding of complex products
  • Proven history in a customer facing role, ideally in a B-to-B environment or technical sales capacity.
  • Sales skills, product, application and process knowledge and experience of the paper industry and market.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commercially minded and excel at networking with others
  • Familiar with working in matrix organization
  • Decisive and results oriented
  • Agile in the face of change
  • Authorized to work within the United States without sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Focus on understanding customer needs and provide them with technical expertise and advice.
  • Foster relationships with customers and external collaborators - become a trusted partner and build influence.
  • Work closely with the sales team to identify, develop and close new business opportunities.
  • Provide paper converting and application expertise internally to sales teams, and customer service and externally to customers on-site when appropriate.
  • Handle customer remarks and claims whenever Customer Service or Operations need technical support.
  • Actively participate in customer projects and innovation - document activity and progress.
  • Screen assigned customer inquiries and assess them for initial 'fit' to our paper portfolio.
  • Participate in trade associations and technical conferences related to target market opportunities, share information internally about the latest industry solutions and technologies.
  • Closely cooperate with and support the product and technology development team.
  • Act as a link between customer and production sites in solving technically complex cases and support the overall quality level improvement of the mills.
  • Monitor and report on industry trends and enhance company intelligence.
