Learn more about BNSF and our Benefits. The BNSF Railway Finance Department provides innovative strategic solutions and world-class financial services to support BNSF's overall performance. The department is committed to maintaining integrity and recognizing the company's successes, ensuring that BNSF remains a leader in the railway industry. Within the Finance Department, several specialized departments contribute to its overall mission: Controller, Revenue Management, Strategic Sourcing, Tax, Treasury, and Strategic Studies. Each department is vital in managing BNSF's financial health and strategic financial planning. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry. This is a full-time position located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. Travel is required as needed but expected 5% of the time or less.

Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • At least a minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement, finance, or a related field.
  • Candidate must have strong leadership skills, excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, and must be an effective communicator with both internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent business partnership and relationship skills required.

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Professional certification, such as CPA, MBA, APICS, or CPM is encouraged as it supports professional insights and excellence

Responsibilities

  • This position is part of a team responsible for the strategic sourcing and procurement activities supporting BNSF's Operations departments.
  • Key focus areas include supplier development, contract and purchase order negotiations, supplier and stakeholder relationship management, catalog management, supplier quality, and total cost of ownership optimization.
  • Set strategic vision and partner with the Operations departments on future projects and commercial agreements, managing existing commercial agreements, and assisting the field locations and maintenance providers on optimizing service provider performance in support of Operations departments' goals.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the identification and execution of Strategic Sourcing requirements, strategies, and process improvements, as well as support of internal stakeholders, specifically BNSF’s Transportation and Engineering departments.
  • Procurement of railroad signal materials and setting strategy supporting the procurement plan for the BNSF signal team are key responsibilities of this position.
  • In addition, this position will be responsible for the strategy, procurement, and management of propane delivery services for the BNSF network, which supports the transportation and signal teams within the operations group.
  • Understanding stakeholder requirements and translating those into impactful actions and process improvements will be very important to success in this role.
  • This position interfaces closely with internal stakeholders in Transportation, Engineering, Safety, Sourcing, Finance, Law, and BNSF Tech, as well as external suppliers and service providers.
