Learn more about BNSF and our Benefits. The BNSF Railway Finance Department provides innovative strategic solutions and world-class financial services to support BNSF's overall performance. The department is committed to maintaining integrity and recognizing the company's successes, ensuring that BNSF remains a leader in the railway industry. Within the Finance Department, several specialized departments contribute to its overall mission: Controller, Revenue Management, Strategic Sourcing, Tax, Treasury, and Strategic Studies. Each department is vital in managing BNSF's financial health and strategic financial planning. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry. This is a full-time position located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. These ranges reflect what BNSF Railway reasonably expects to pay for this position, based on the role’s level, scope, and responsibilities. Final compensation and position level will be determined by factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay and bonus eligibility, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package. This position is a highly technical role supporting BNSF in the ownership and enhancement of the company's Activity Based Costing system. The successful candidate will collaborate on the system's modernization to a Python platform under a tight deadline, owning delivery of assigned components to production. The role manages multiple concurrent projects, is expected to rapidly develop expert-level knowledge of the Cost System to become the technical authority for the platform, and works effectively with business partners at all levels of the company.

Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Bachelor's degree with preference in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or Business, and/or equivalent formal training, certifications or work experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in an Information Technology environment or Business areas supporting IT functions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Experience deploying applications in a containerized environment (Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using large language models (LLMs) programmatically (agent-based workflows through efficient use of compute/model resources).
  • Ability to read and reverse-engineer legacy SAS, JCL, and mainframe logic

Responsibilities

  • Lead and collaborate on projects by coding, implementing, and maintaining logic to improve costing methodologies, which accurately determine profitability for various marketing segments.
  • Develop tools and visual reports to provide profitability information that will inform decision-making within Marketing, Finance and Operations departments.
  • Collaborate with bnsf tech department to develop, test, and deliver solutions into production.
  • Present and explain recommendations on items affecting the costing system directly to business partners and senior leaders.
  • Serve as a technical resource to the finance department, tackling technical problems beyond the Cost System area as opportunities arise and assist in technical skill development across the Finance Technology organization.
