About The Position

The Go Libraries Team is seeking a Manager to lead the development, governance, and lifecycle management of shared and third-party Go libraries used across the Viya platform. This role is critical to establishing a secure, reliable, and extensible foundation that enables product teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions efficiently and at scale. This position is responsible for all shared Go-based library initiatives within Foundation Services, providing technical leadership, setting standards, and ensuring architectural consistency across platform services. The role also includes oversight of the platform’s base images, with a strong focus on security, reliability, and long-term sustainability. As a people and technical leader, you will guide the team’s technical direction, drive best practices, and support the continued growth and effectiveness of the Go Libraries Team. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams, support inner-source contributions, and lead engineers in delivering foundational capabilities that reduce risk, improve developer productivity, and strengthen the overall platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field, preferably computer science, math, or statistics
  • Requires a minimum of eight years of related programming or testing experience, including one year of project lead, supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong people leadership skills with a demonstrated record of building high-trust, high-performing teams
  • Deep understanding of Agile practices and continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong knowledge in related programming languages, operating systems, development tools, procedures and methodologies applicable to current projects
  • Ability to lead multiple high-priority projects concurrently and adapt to changing priorities, projects and deadlines.
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and prioritize the development and lifecycle management of shared Go-based libraries and foundational platform components to ensure delivery of secure, scalable, and high-quality software solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and set standards for architecture, design, and implementation, ensuring consistency and reliability across platform services and supported environments.
  • Own product quality and security outcomes, ensuring comprehensive testing, adherence to secure development practices, and accountability for the full lifecycle of code consumed by internal and external teams.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering managers, product teams, and other stakeholders to align priorities, scope work effectively, and reduce platform and delivery risk.
  • Manage and develop engineers, including mentoring, performance management, and professional growth, while fostering a culture of trust, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive strategic and tactical planning, balancing near-term delivery with long-term sustainability, platform evolution, and developer productivity.
  • Ensure secure software development practices, including adherence to all applicable SAS security policies and processes.
  • Champion SAS values of curiosity, passion, authenticity, and accountability, fostering a culture that encourages innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote inner-source and open-source engagement, encouraging participation in approved inner-source and open-source projects on behalf of SAS to strengthen shared components and the broader developer ecosystem.
