About The Position

Welcome to Warner Bros. Discovery, a global media and entertainment company. The Global Product and Design group within the Streaming and Games Team is responsible for the global streaming platform supporting various video products and brands like Max, HBO Max, discovery+, Food Network, CNN, Golf TV, MotorTrend, and Eurosport. This team plans, designs, and builds for connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles, operating as one company with a mission to be the premier media and entertainment leader globally. You will be joining the CNN growth team, which focuses on building engaging experiences to foster a direct relationship with users. This team collaborates with product managers, data scientists, and product analysts to explore growth opportunities, generate hypotheses, and test features. The tech stack includes JavaScript, Node, Python, Svelte, Sass, and AWS services, valuing flexibility and full-stack capabilities. As a Manager, Software Development on CNN's Growth Team, you will contribute significantly to creating features for registered users on one of the world's leading news and media platforms. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop secure, exciting, and performant user experiences. The role requires an understanding of engineering's importance in product discovery and execution, harmonious teamwork, and a eagerness to learn and grow. The team is actively exploring new direct-to-consumer subscription products for CNN and building features to expand the registered user audience. You will work closely with partners in product, design, analytics, and marketing to develop and test products and user experiences that drive customer acquisition and engagement throughout the user journey. The growth of CNN’s digital business is a core element of WBD’s long-term strategy, and you will be part of the team driving this digital revenue growth.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working with other developers on a production system
  • 5+ years of experience with JavaScript, including ES6/7 and asynchronous JavaScript
  • Experience with performance monitoring and analytics tools like Datadog, New Relic, or similar
  • Ability to review group or company level priorities (such as OKRs) breaking down problems into meaningful tasks and solutions working with peers within the team cross-functionally across the organization
  • Deep industry experience with modern development technologies, and hands-on familiarity with both client and server technology
  • Have a solid understanding of common software data structures and algorithms
  • Understand the constraints of working with a growing team and thrive in an environment that is fast paced

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing CMS platforms preferred
  • Experience using handlebars.js for templating and view logic where applicable
  • Experience in setting up, managing, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using AWS tools and services
  • Some python experience preferred
  • Experience with vue.js
  • Experience integrating authorization and payment APIs within the application layer
  • Experience A/B testing

Responsibilities

  • Work primarily in modern JavaScript, maintaining and developing components
  • Optimize code for performance and scalability
  • Contribute to the code & architecture reviews and champion best practices for the organization by defining and evolving engineering standards
  • Strong inter-team and cross-team communication
  • Follow a progressive development methodology, moving from proofs of concept to prototypes to production releases
  • Work closely with designers to implement user interfaces that are both functional and visually appealing
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and responsiveness of the application
  • Develop and maintain server-side logic using relevant back-end technologies
  • Integrate front-end elements with server-side logic seamlessly
  • Design and implement APIs for data exchange between client and server
  • Experience integrating 3rd party libraries
  • Security first mindset

  • Working in Agile methodologies for organized and distributed work within the team
