About The Position

To manage staff in the execution of a safe and secure environment for court employees, and clients, and oversee courtroom security operations. This position is directly responsible for the supervision of security officer staff.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of practices, methods, and techniques in security.
  • Knowledge of procedures, legal documents, laws, and legal factors pertaining to the court and law enforcement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally, and in writing, and to prepare clear, complete, and logical reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in accordance with the laws, regulations, and court policies and procedures.
  • Ability to rapidly assess a variety of situations, such as those that represent a potential threat to persons, or property, and choose appropriate course of action.
  • Ability to train and supervise employees.
  • Ability to operate and interpret x-ray device, and metal detection equipment.
  • Ability to be trained in first aid, AED, and CPR procedures.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field plus three years of directly related experience in law enforcement, security, or military.
  • Some experience in physical security, inclusive of at least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Must be qualified to successfully obtain Private Commissioned Officer Class A license, as required by RSMO and outlined in 17 CSR 10-2.050 Testing Requirement and Qualification Standards, which includes but is not limited to the following qualifications: a) Be a citizen of the United Sates. b) Be at least 21 years old. c) If a veteran, possess an honorable discharge, or general discharge under honorable conditions. d) Meet physical/mental established board standards. e) Have no felony convictions.
  • Must be capable of obtaining firearm authorization and complete court approved firearm qualification program if directed by Court Authority.
  • Must be first aid/AED/CPR qualified and safe clinch certified or become certified with six months of employment.
  • All candidates selected for employment will be subject to background screenings as part of the hiring process. Certain positions may also require additional checks, including but not limited to education verification, child abuse and neglect clearances, drug screenings, and physical assessments, as applicable to the responsibilities of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure staff follow sound and thorough screening, and observation techniques, address disturbances safely, properly detain disorderly clients, and operate effectively in emergency circumstances.
  • Assist in the development and execution of emergency management plans for all facilities.
  • Review plans and make recommendations for changes.
  • Routinely check emergency equipment for proper working order.
  • Manage security screening of employees and visitors.
  • Ensure no weapons or illegal materials enter the facility.
  • Mediate and de-escalate all disturbances in the court.
  • Observe and monitor behavior of individuals to prevent disturbances.
  • Detain individuals.
  • Patrol facility to detect unusual situations or conditions and check for security problems.
  • Recommend security enhancements.
  • Investigate thefts, and maintain emergency equipment.
  • Ensure AED’s are registered and compliant with KCMO and State of Missouri statutes.
  • Conduct emergency drills and training in emergency procedures.
  • In absence of official law clerk, ensures recording equipment is operational, case files, and required paperwork are present, lighting and temperature are appropriate.
  • Assists court staff as required to ensure smooth and timely court operations.
  • Provide information and status updates regarding security issues, incidents, media coverage, and other security related issues.
  • Prepare and review incident reports.
  • Manage back-up Bailiff’s and ensure courtroom is operational if official Bailiff is absent.
  • Assists court staff as required to ensure smooth and timely court operations.
  • Perform other duties as required.
