About The Position

This role is responsible for directing scrap blending and melting processes to meet production volumes, optimizing processes for yield and energy consumption, ensuring safety and sustainability, controlling operational budgets, and leading a team of production supervisors and operators. The position also involves collaborating with various departments to optimize shop-wide throughput and driving key performance indicators related to production volume, yield, efficiency, cost, and asset management.

Requirements

• Experience in scrap blending and melting processes.
• Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma principles.
• Understanding of AI/ML for predictive maintenance, digital twins, and robotics.
• Experience in safety management and sustainability practices (decarbonization, emissions compliance, circular economy).
• Budget management and cost control experience.
• Experience in monitoring raw material usage and variance analysis.
• Team leadership experience, including recruitment, training, and mentoring.
• Experience managing labor relations.
• Cross-departmental collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with Key Performance Indicators such as LST, yield, efficiency, cost per ton, and capacity utilization.

Responsibilities

• Direct scrap blending and melting processes to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production volumes according to demand forecasts.
• Optimize yield and reduce energy consumption using Lean/Six Sigma principles.
• Champion advanced technology adoption like AI/ML for predictive maintenance, digital twins, and robotics.
• Cultivate a strong safety-first culture and drive facility decarbonization, emissions compliance, and circular economy practices.
• Adhere to operational budgets, identify cost-reduction opportunities, and monitor raw material usage against MBP targets through variance analysis.
• Recruit, train, and mentor production supervisors and operators while managing labor relations in partnership with HR.
• Serve as a central liaison between Procurement, LMF-VTD, Caster, and Refractory teams to optimize shop-wide throughput.
• Drive Key Performance Indicators: Production Volume & Schedule (Liquid steel tons (LST), plan vs. target adherence, operating rates, and on-time delivery), Yield & Efficiency (Overall yield (raw material to finished product), specific process yields (EAF, LF, Caster, Refractory), and throughput (Tons/Hour)), Cost & Asset Management (Cost per ton of steel produced and capacity utilization rate).
