About The Position

The Manager, School Safety and Discipline provides leadership in FLVS' safety, security, and discipline services and collaboratively addresses behavioral, safety, and security issues that may arise. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring effective threat coordination and school safety procedures are followed. This position provides operational assistance, technical guidance, and training to district, school, and administrative staff concerning safety, security, and discipline matters. Additionally, the Manager, School Safety and Discipline oversees the analysis of relevant data, identifies emerging trends, and offers recommendations for system and process enhancements.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in related field, preferred.
  • Three-five years’ experience in Law Enforcement, Safety and Security, or Discipline in an Educational Setting
  • Three years’ supervisory or management experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Knowledge of Student Codes of Conduct
  • Knowledge of SESIR reporting standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of all state and federal education guidelines
  • Knowledge of Threat Management procedures
  • Certified YMHFA Trainer
  • Knowledge of all state rules, laws, policies, and procedures applicable to school safety, discipline, and security.
  • Proficiency in organization, prioritization, and planning; ability to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to employ innovative problem-solving techniques to accomplish objectives
  • Ability to work with and through people to establish goals, objectives, and action plans

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact between Florida Virtual School and the Office of Safe Schools regarding Threat Management and Safety and Security.
  • Serve as the District Threat Management Coordinator for FLVS.
  • Investigate incidents related to student discipline in alignment with the student code of conduct.
  • Work in collaboration with outside agencies, including local law enforcement as necessary.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all SESIR Incidents.
  • Serve as the certified School Safety Specialist for the district
  • Provide training and resources to students, families, and staff in matters relating to emergency procedures, threat management, discipline, and school safety and security.
  • Provide direct consultation and guidance to students and parents on matters relating to threat management safety, community referrals, and postvention strategies.
  • Work in coordination with various stakeholders to determine the appropriate level of response for a student in distress or danger.
  • Assist in the coordination of student support and re-entry plans.
  • Support district and school based Threat Management Teams.
  • Monitor Discipline, School Safety, Threat Management, and Baker Act Data.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to determine the mental health, safety and/or behavioral needs of all students.
  • Review policies and procedures of FLVS for compliance with state law and rules concerning threat management, school safety, and discipline.
  • Manage, support, and respond to FORTIFYFL alerts for the district.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the district’s Safety and Security Plan.
  • Work in coordination with facilities for on-site safety inspections.
  • Manage Discipline Reviews to determine the appropriateness of enrollment.
  • Lead and manage assigned direct reports, ensuring team members have access to professional and personal growth within the organization.
  • Manage the collection of safety, security, discipline, and student outcomes data and the overall performance and effectiveness of services provided.
  • Prepare all required reports and maintain appropriate records.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information as required by all applicable laws.
  • Manage, analyze, and resolve quality and customer service escalations regarding discipline and student safety.
  • Work in coordination with the Mental Health Manager to review the Risk and Suicide Assessment procedures for the district and serve as point of contact for school staff, parent, and students.
  • Ensure that FLVS is in compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Maintain advanced professional and technical knowledge by attending applicable educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional associations.
  • Conduct team meetings and individual performance discussions, assisting the Student Services and Discipline Coordinator in developing and meeting annual business and professional development goals.
  • Engage with diverse leaders to develop board policies and administrative procedures.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others
