About The Position

The Nurse Manager provides supervision and leadership to the School Health Program through recruiting, standard practices, data-driven decision making, staff engagement, education, mentoring, and partner collaboration. Responsible for the safe and effective delivery of quality care and services in the School Health Room, in accordance with established regulations, policies, nursing standards, and instruction; liaising with school district administrators and staff. Develops and maintains standards of care and practice; makes staffing, management, and budgetary decisions. Ensures services provided by a registered nurse or properly delegated by the registered nurse are performed as defined by statute, law, and regulations. Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Experience in school health or a related field
  • Experience in supervision and leadership

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision, guidance and direction to the assigned team daily; train, coach, and mentor to improve the quality of student outcomes; collaborate to ensure coordinated delivery of the school health services; integrate continuous quality and performance improvement process in daily activities.
  • Provides oversight, compliance and direction on the delegation of nursing tasks to certified nursing assistants acting as unlicensed Assistive Personnel; ensures non-delegated tasks are completed by the registered nurse.
  • Actively participates in meetings and conference calls with the School District of Palm Beach County, Health Department and other community partners, representing the Health Care District's School Health Program.
  • Maintains compliance with regulations, statutes, and nursing practices by writing and updating policies, procedures and protocols; enforces staff adherence with training, competencies and assessments.
  • Maintains school health staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training; evaluates employees through established criteria and competencies; ensures health rooms are appropriately staffed; occasionally visits health rooms to ensure nursing standards of practice and specific health room procedures are met.
  • Analyzes trends, incidents and reports of heath room volumes, support center calls, audit results and quality data to identify corrective action, risks and training improvement opportunities; prepares written and oral reports for the monthly Risk and Quality Review Meetings; evaluates assigned performance (KPI, Budget, Quality Metrics) and takes necessary corrective action.
  • Participates or leads committees, and quality and service delivery improvement initiatives internally and with partners to improve student care outcomes.
  • Develops and monitors financial performance and identifies and implements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of care/service.

  • Participates in the planning, coordinating, developing and executing of monthly staff development days.
  • Ensures care is delivered to each student in accordance with established regulations, policies, and clinical and quality standards and is documented in student health records and nursing care plans.
  • Partners with staff and school health leadership to ensure streamlined and collaborative communication, timely problem resolution, and positive relationships with providers, parents/guardians, and school administration, so that nurses are supported, engaged, and effective in delivering exceptional care.
  • Addresses escalated inquiries/incidences from principals, parents and teachers as needed, ensuring consultation and involvement from the Medical Director and the School Health Director of Nursing, as needed.
  • Maintains, monitors and assesses the parent complaint registry, reporting medical errors as necessary; recommends and implements changes based on an assessment of recurring parent complaints.
  • Communicates regularly with employees both individually and in staff meetings; monitors staff time and attendance daily utilizing the electronic software provided; develops a plan to evaluate and counsel staff related to requests for time off during the school session if students are present.
  • Counsels staff about professional growth and advanced education; encourages staff to attend continuing education programs to meet licensure requirements; monitor and report required educational compliance of nursing staff to meet licensure needs, keeping all parties informed of impending needs; ensure staff attend HCDPBC nurse development days
  • Oversees and participates in emergency and disaster planning activities with community organizations and partners such as the Hospital Emergency Resource Coalition (HERC) and supports activities of ESF8 at the Emergency Operations Center.
