About The Position

This role is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Safety Management System Plan, including comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and tools to enhance compliance with corporate direction and reduce accidents/injuries. The position involves monitoring compliance, conducting safety audits, and ensuring adherence to statutory and regulatory safety policies. It also includes monitoring and evaluating risk control strategies, identifying new hazards, and overseeing the recording of safety performance. Furthermore, the role contributes to fostering a safety culture through exemplary behavior, ensuring a just culture, planning and delivering safety meetings, and leading safety improvement campaigns.

Requirements

  • Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) TSSP certification required (or ability to obtain within 2 years)
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in transit operations or transportation safety
  • Strong knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), ADOT, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Experience developing and implementing Safety Management System (SMS) programs, safety plans, policies, procedures, and corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a diverse workforce
  • Ability to proactively identify risk trends and implement corrective actions and mitigation strategies.
  • Strong collaboration skills to partner with operations, maintenance, and support teams to achieve contractual safety targets.
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and communicate regulatory requirements clearly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access)
  • Flexibility to support investigations, training, and safety initiatives across varying schedules and operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support the site implementation of the Safety Management System Plan, comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and tools to enhance compliance with corporate direction in efforts to reduce accidents/injuries in the workplace.
  • Monitor compliance with the KTA’s SMS policies and procedures, conducting ongoing safety auditing.
  • Ensure all relevant statutory and regulatory safety polices are applied and adhered to.
  • Monitor and evaluate the continued effectiveness of risk control strategies.
  • Identify and assess new hazards introduced in the workplace.
  • Oversee ongoing monitoring and recording of safety performance.
  • Contribute to the safety culture through displaying exemplary safety-oriented behaviors.
  • Ensure a just culture within the organization where all employees are treated fairly and justly and understand their contribution to the organization’s safety philosophy.
  • Plan, schedule and deliver monthly safety meetings.
  • Proactively leads safety improvement campaigns systematically in the field.
