About The Position

The Property Accounting Manager leads the accounting and reporting of utility plant assets, construction work in progress (CWIP), retirements, depreciation, and related regulatory accounting matters. This role ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP, FERC accounting requirements, company capitalization policies and internal controls. The manager oversees a team responsible for maintaining the utility's fixed asset records and serves as a key business partner to Engineering, Operations, Regulatory, Financial Planning & Analysis, and External Reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
  • CPA required
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience is required
  • A minimum of two (2) years of managerial or supervisory experience is required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Experience with SAP and PowerPlan is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting for utility plant activity, such as additions, retirements, transfers, unitizations, depreciation and asset retirement obligations
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed asset rollforwards, and monthly close activities.
  • Support SEC, financial reporting, and financial planning and analysis requirements involving PP&E and depreciation.
  • Manage preparation of regulatory schedules supporting rate cases and capital recovery mechanisms.
  • Ensure compliance with FERC Uniform System of Accounts and state regulatory requirements.
  • Develop responses to regulatory audits and requests for information.
  • Interpret and apply capitalization policies and retirement unit guidance.
  • Partner with engineering and project management teams to evaluate capitalization of new programs, technologies, and major projects.
  • Resolve complex accounting questions related to utility construction activities.
  • Drive consistency in capitalization practices across business units.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of property accounting professionals.
  • Assign, monitor, and prioritize workload to ensure service levels and reporting deadlines are achieved.
  • Support employee development, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Foster a continuous-improvement culture focused on efficiency and internal control excellence.
  • Maintain and test SOX controls related to fixed assets, depreciation, and capital accounting processes.
  • Coordinate internal and external audit requests.
  • Ensure proper documentation of accounting conclusions and control execution.
