About The Position

The Manager, Production oversees technical production aspects, Audio, Video, Lighting, for Honda Center live events and sports, including hockey, basketball, volleyball, and boxing. This role oversees the team managing operation, scheduling, and maintenance of broadcast control rooms, LED video displays, sound reinforcement systems, and lighting effects. The ideal candidate ensures operational support for live sporting events, concerts (as needed), private corporate bookings within Honda Center, and other OCVIBE properties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of live AVL production experience inside a sports arena, stadium, or major theater
  • Minimum of 3-4 years in a supervisory or management role leading technical crews
  • Experienced in Live Entertainment Technology, Broadcast Production, and live events logistics
  • Experience in professional broadcast video control rooms
  • Experience with sports replay systems (evertz Dream Catcher) and sports graphics engines (e.g., Ross Xpression)
  • Familiarity with digital audio consoles (Yamaha, Dante network protocols, QSYS) and wireless mic systems
  • Familiarity with entertainment lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, High End Systems) and DMX/ArtNet routing
  • Knowledge of video encoding, streaming protocol, and digital signage software
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays based on the event calendar
  • Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods during long event days
  • Comfort working at heights (catwalks) and in confined technical spaces when verifying equipment

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical staff for all live sports, tournaments, and entertainment events
  • Work closely with the Media Technology Specialists to program, configure, and troubleshoot venue LED fascia boards and main video scoreboards
  • Oversee broadcast control room operations for in-venue presentation and external streaming
  • Manage audio engineers overseeing all FOH and BOH playback systems and configurations, including wireless frequency coordination, and intercom systems for event staff
  • Act as point of contact and work closely with event managers, show producers, and arena operations teams to ensure all technical operations are show ready
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise a pool of freelance AVL technicians and event day crew
  • Act as main point of contact for internal and external events and production teams, and conduct on-site walkthroughs as needed
  • Assign specific operational roles including technical directors, replay operators, camera operators, and audio engineers
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture focused on safety and precise cue execution
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and technical training sessions for production staff
  • Establish and execute a preventative maintenance schedule for all venue AVL hardware
  • Diagnose technical failures rapidly during live events and implement immediate redundancy protocols
  • Manage the production department budget, track expenses, and forecast capital expenditures (CapEx)
  • Maintain accurate inventory logs of all cables, microphones, lighting fixtures, and broadcast components
  • Partner with external integrators and manufacturers for system upgrades, firmware patches, and warranty repairs
