Manager, Product Engineering & Innovation

CozeyMount Royal, QC

About The Position

We're creating a brand-new function at Cozey, and we're looking for someone who genuinely loves the craft of product engineering to help us build it. This person will be embedded in our Product Development & Design pod as a hands-on collaborator, working side by side with our furniture designers every day to solve complex engineering challenges, develop reusable platform systems, and continuously make our products better for our customers. This isn't a management role. You're working directly with the team, getting your hands on prototypes, digging into materials, sketching out assembly mechanisms, and figuring out how to make things simpler, smarter, and better. If you're the kind of person who'd rather spend your day solving a real product problem than sitting in meetings about one, this is the role. This role is based in-person at our head office in Montreal.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8+ years in product engineering, mechanical engineering, or industrial engineering, ideally in consumer products, consumer electronics, soft goods, or similar.
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, materials, tolerances, and DFM (design for manufacturability).
  • Experience designing systems or platforms that scale across a product line, not just one-off solutions.
  • Comfortable working in CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) and building and testing physical prototypes.
  • Someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and genuinely enjoys working alongside designers. You understand the push and pull between what looks great and what works at scale.
  • A simplifier by instinct. You see complexity and want to reduce it.
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving environment where you'll touch everything from foam spec sheets to connector tooling to packaging geometry.
  • A strong communicator who can explain engineering tradeoffs to non-engineers clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Furniture experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating closely with designers to solve complex engineering problems during product development, from early concept through production readiness.
  • Designing and developing platform-level innovations (assembly systems, connection mechanisms, cover attachment solutions) that can be reused across current and future product lines, so the team isn't reinventing the wheel every time we develop something new.
  • Simplifying existing product platforms. Looking at what we've already built and finding ways to reduce part counts, improve tolerances, make assembly more intuitive, and lower cost without sacrificing the customer experience.
  • Continuously creating more value for our customers by improving product quality, reducing cost, and optimizing for transportation and logistics.
  • Tackling the engineering side of our packaging constraints. Our products need to ship in compact boxes within strict weight and dimensional limits, and you'll work with the team to solve that elegantly.
  • Working on materials and construction, including foam and fill specifications, cover fabrics, and structural components. When something isn't performing the way it should, you dig in, diagnose, and develop a fix.
  • Helping develop engineering solutions alongside our suppliers. You won't own the supplier relationship or sourcing decisions, but when the design team needs to work through a technical problem with a factory, you're there helping figure it out.
  • Building a continuous improvement loop by translating customer feedback, complaints, returns data, and reviews into actionable product improvements.

Benefits

  • A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Endless opportunities for personal and professional growth in a fast-growing startup.
  • A generous PTO policy to support rest and balance.
  • A role where your strategies and decisions directly influence company operations and growth.
  • A workplace where everyone is welcomed, heard, and valued.
