About The Position

Manages the plant quality assurance function as directed. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment, including correcting unsafe acts/conditions, facilitating monthly safety meetings, performing monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents. The manager or designee must be trained and certified in the food safety system and oversee its development, implementation, review, and maintenance, providing for trained backups in the case of absence of key food safety system employees. The role directs and coordinates the activities of the quality assurance function in the plant and its interface with the group office, establishing and maintaining quality assurance standard procedures, methods, facility, and equipment to meet customer requirements. It also establishes and maintains a customer relations program in plant matters relating to quality, and directs and implements quality training and development programs to maintain the competence and technical skills required for the effective performance of the plant quality assurance department. The position establishes and analyzes quality areas, including quality goals, quality problems, defective materials, claims, and customer quality problems, advising plant management and the manufacturing department of the results of such analysis. It oversees the application and administration of the Infinity system within the plant, if applicable, and works with material suppliers on quality issues and cost reductions. The role administers customer and vendor claim reimbursement systems and performs leaker awareness training at the customer level. It involves accessing, inputting, and retrieving information from the computer, and initiating, reviewing, mastering, and following all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the area of responsibility. The manager establishes and maintains an employee relations climate of trust and confidence that will discourage third-party interference or establishes and maintains an employee relations climate of trust and confidence with employees, their union steward, and representatives which will promote achievement of plant and company goals. It also establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the division, the group, and the company, including the ability to handle stress and to interact with others so as to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimize personal conflicts. The position requires maintaining an awareness of and compliance with hazardous waste management and other environmental management requirements in the workplace by attending scheduled training sessions, communicating with the emergency coordinator (EC) or Environmental Focal Point/Environmental Manager (EFP/EM) regarding environmental management activities, and understanding and responding effectively to EC directions during emergencies. It involves understanding, completing, and maintaining environmental documentation for which the individual is trained, or as directed by the EC, EFP, or EM, and reporting to the EC, EFP, or EM on the status of assigned responsibilities. The role complies with established job safety practices, policies, and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment. It recognizes waste streams and minimizes waste generation, through prudent use of materials, proper disposal, and segregation as directed during training or by the EC, EFP/EM, understanding and practicing proper accumulation and storage requirements for wastes. The position complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes.

Requirements

Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college or work-related experience
Job related experience for 4 year(s) minimum
Ability to apply intensive and diversified evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard plant quality assurance techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner.
Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
Ability to negotiate with customers to promote or sell ideas or concepts.
Ability to operate and functionally use a computer.
Must maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills.
Working knowledge of the following areas: company policies, procedures, and products; quality assurance principles, practices, nomenclature, and procedures; generally accepted managerial practices and procedures; business principles, legal practices, customer needs and expectations.
Must follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the Ball Corporation manuals.
Works in both office and manufacturing environments.
This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc.
Must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.
