About The Position

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. The company's primary focus is ensuring reliable, clean, and affordable energy delivery 24/7. This position is located at the Jackson Generating Station in Jackson, MI, and requires the selected candidate to be within commuting distance or willing to relocate, with relocation assistance available. This role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship, including H-1B, TN, CPT, or STEM OPT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or technical related field with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in plant operations.
  • Associate’s degree in business or technical related field with a minimum of six (6) years of experience in plant operations.
  • High school diploma with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in plant operations.
  • Ability to develop people, encourage participation in decision-making, and foster diversity of thought.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a multiple and diverse range of strategic, business, and tactical assignments.
  • Ability to speak to a crowd and with the public, and skilled in communicating information effectively to others.
  • Financial, waste elimination, automation acumen, and change management skills.
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of power plant operations, maintenance, procedures, systems, and equipment.
  • Leadership acumen.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all operational activities at the facility, ensuring safety compliance, administering policies, and achieving financial objectives.
  • Operate plants in full compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and power generation regulations.
  • Lead employees to ensure public safety by complying with regulatory requirements and utilizing Emergency Action Plans and the Incident Command structure.
  • Maintain compliance with operating license and environmental regulations.
  • Support and participate in regulatory inspection activities by FERC, EGLE, MDNR, and others.
  • Manage plant budgets by tracking, controlling costs, and projecting plant expenses.
  • Collaborate with and influence matrixed teams such as finance, supply chain, and project management.
  • Supervise leaders; coach the team to ensure they remain up to date on training, development, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ensure team members understand priorities, work status, and operational issues in their assigned areas.
  • Develop necessary skills to improve performance and coach the leadership team on personal development.
  • Oversee the monitoring, inspection, maintenance, and control of all power production, auxiliary, and facility equipment for safe, legal, continuous, and efficient operation.
  • Ensure plant compliance parameters are within established limits.
  • Supervise plant logs and records; ensure updates and accuracy of plant operations documentation and keep operating policies and procedures up to date.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to management in compliance with procedural and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide training to coworkers in the inspection, repair, and operation of the facility.
  • Assist in training operations and maintenance employees.
  • Offer hands-on, leading-edge approaches to the facility's safety, health, and training programs.
  • Ensure procedural reviews and audits are completed.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, merchant operations, and other key stakeholders to ensure plant safety, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams focused on problem-solving and continuous improvement activities that maximize customer value.
  • Enforce all safety policies and practices for all work activities.
  • Ensure all policies and practices are followed by employees, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Responsible for NERC and environmental compliance.
  • Oversee vendor management, plant budget, operating plan, and plant and system health.
  • Identify threats to generation and other key performance indicators in coordination with key stakeholder organizations.
  • Take necessary action to prevent safety violations, environmental or regulatory excursions, or production loss.
  • Generate maintenance work order requests and purchase requests as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.
