About The Position

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is seeking a Manager, Philanthropy to join its Development team. This role, located in Toronto, is responsible for managing a portfolio of donors, with a focus on foundations and government grant programs, aiming to raise and steward over $1.5 million annually. The Manager will oversee all phases of grant administration for the Development Department, providing expertise and project management to achieve revenue goals and grow the donor portfolio. This position involves maintaining and enhancing donor relationships, acting as a liaison and ambassador for the Development Department, and representing the AGO on key museum initiatives. The role contributes to the AGO’s mission of leading global conversations through its collections, exhibitions, and programs, while also supporting the organization's commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years directly related experience in foundation and grant administration and major gift fundraising
  • Strong understanding of granting programs
  • Directly related experience in developing and designing persuasive proposals, including project budgets
  • Solid experience managing a portfolio and achieving revenue targets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management skills; well-organized, detail-oriented, effective at follow-through and priority setting
  • Effective comprehension and application of confidentiality and diplomacy
  • Well-developed computer literacy including development/fundraising applications, spreadsheets and CRM
  • Experience working in complex non-profit organization
  • University degree or equivalent education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Achieve an annual revenue goal of $1.5 million+ through proactive relationship management.
  • Develop and implement strategies to identify, solicit, secure, and steward existing and new donors, with a focus on foundations and government grants.
  • Conduct research, prepare briefing notes, correspondence, proposals, and impact reports.
  • Coordinate and lead meetings related to donor engagement and grant administration.
  • Serve as the day-to-day point person for grant administration, managing information collection and leading complex application, reporting, and compliance processes.
  • Conduct ongoing research on foundation and government funding opportunities and stay apprised of industry trends.
  • Provide thought leadership and expertise in program and strategy development.
  • Complete professional and timely follow-up activity from prospect meetings, proposal and data tracking, correspondence, and call reporting.
  • Update records in the database and collaborate with Development Operations and Donor Relations to ensure gift and grant agreements are processed effectively and efficiently.
  • Participate as a division representative on museum groups and committees as assigned.
  • Act as a Gallery representative at external functions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
