About The Position

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is seeking a bilingual (French and English) Manager of Payroll and Benefits to join their team. This is a full-time, permanent, and fully remote position located anywhere in Canada. The NCC is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to protecting important natural areas and the species they sustain. The Manager will be responsible for the timely and effective processing of payroll and benefits for all staff across Canada, providing exceptional service within a people-focused culture that emphasizes learning and growth. The role reports to the Director, Corporate Finance.

Requirements

  • Bilingual - French/English (oral and written) is required.
  • Completion of Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation is required.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (i.e. finance, accounting, human resources) is strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing full cycle payroll processing for a Canada-wide organization.
  • At least 2 years of benefits plan and RRSP management.
  • Strong knowledge of current, multi-provincial and relevant payroll legislation across Canada.
  • Strong knowledge of ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll and HRIS software.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel (with particular focus on pivot tables, VLOOKUPs and advanced formulas).

Nice To Haves

  • Designation in a recognized benefits administration or benefits management program would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge or relevant experience in the not-for-profit sector is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage bi-weekly payroll through ADP, including employee benefits and group RRSP, ensuring timely submission of payroll and benefits information and billing.
  • Process all employee changes in ADP (new hires, leaves, transfers, salary adjustments, terminations, etc.) in accordance with legislative requirements and organizational policies, ensuring approvals are in place.
  • Liaise with internal customers to resolve issues and provide a high level of service.
  • Ensure seamless processing of employee leaves and returns to work, partnering with the HR Manager and disability management providers.
  • Manage payments and reconciliation of employee deductions for group benefits and RRSP plans.
  • Provide payroll/benefits reconciliation, reporting, and analysis to Finance and HR teams.
  • Ensure payroll and benefit process documentation and workflows are current, updated, and communicated.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including timely preparation and remittance of statutory payments (Income tax, EI, CPP, WCB, EHT, etc.) and group benefit payments.
  • Prepare accurate and timely Records of Employment and other statutory reports.
  • Ensure efficient year-end reporting, including T4, T2200, and related summaries and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and file various year-end returns, reports, and forms as required by provincial and federal governments.
  • Act as an internal resource and subject matter expert for employees and managers regarding payroll and benefits.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll issues and legislation across Canada, as well as CRA regulations.
  • Prepare bi-weekly GL report to process accruals.
  • Assist with the year-end financial audit as required.
  • Provide regular and ad hoc benefits reporting, analysis, and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Recommend policy guidelines impacting benefits and payroll, focusing on best practices and continuous efficiency improvement.
  • Act as a point of escalation or respond directly to external parties (Service Canada, provincial Ministries, etc.) for information requests.
  • Provide ongoing management, coaching, and development to the Payroll & Benefits Coordinator.
  • Participate in special projects such as ERP implementation or ADP upgrades.
