About The Position

The Group manufactures and globally markets some of the leading brands in respiratory care, including the AeroChamber® brand of valved holding chambers, the Aerobika® brand of OPEP devices, and the AeroEclipse® brand of nebulizers. Trudell Medical Limited is the Corporate entity within the Trudell Medical Group of Companies and operates out of our offices in London, Ontario Canada. We are currently looking for a Manager, Payroll & Benefits - Canada to join our People & Culture team. This is an office-based role with the option of a hybrid work arrangement. Must be available to come into the London, Ontario office 4 days per week. You have the ability to manage requirements elicitation activities with a variety of stakeholders and manage a workload that involves tasks from concurrently running initiatives. You are a Certified Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) with post-secondary education in Business, Finance or equivalent. You have a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience with expertise in Canada payroll, pension and benefit administration, including 3 years of people management. You have experience managing and processing multi-entity and multi jurisdiction payrolls as well as advanced skills with HRIS systems. You are a highly detail-oriented person with comprehensive knowledge of payroll accounting and general ledger entries. You are comfortable being hands on in payroll processing and able to operate in a structured but evolving environment. You are a problem solver who knows when to escalate versus resolve and have advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, Microsoft applications, Defined Contribution Pension Plans (DCPP) and pension committees. Any previous experience with Dayforce HRIS is an asset. Reporting to the Director, Global Compensation & Benefits, you will manage payroll, benefits, and pension plan administration for the Canadian companies within the Trudell Medical Group (TMG).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the performance of all direct reports is evaluated to maximize their performance and development throughout the year and during the annual performance review
  • Develop direct reports by following management practices and setting appropriate objectives that align with department and company goals
  • Manage and actively participate in bi-weekly payroll process ensuring payrolls are accurate, on time and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Perform detailed variance analysis and pre-transmission audits to ensure accuracy and control. Resolve discrepancies prior to final transmission
  • Validate and ensure accurate tax calculations of wages and payroll calculations including overtime, regular earnings, bonuses, commissions, garnishments, benefit deductions, and pension contributions
  • Ensure integrity of payroll data, maintain strong audit controls and management of all supporting files and documents
  • Prepare and ensure accurate payroll accounting and reporting, including allocation of wages, benefits, taxes, and pension activity by cost center
  • Serve as full operational backup to the Payroll Team with the ability to independently run full payroll cycles without disruption
  • Manage and actively participate in eROE process by ensuring strict adherence to Service Canada regulations and submission deadlines
  • Manage and process all aspects of payroll year-end including T4/RL1 processing, detailed reconciliations, taxable benefit reporting, adjusting entries, and all year end related filings
  • Support payroll system transitions, enhancements, and implementations as required, including configuration, maintenance, updates, troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support internal and external audit requests including Worker’s Compensation, EHT, Tax, etc.
  • Proactively monitor new payroll legislation and ensure compliance
  • Administer employee benefit enrollments, terminations and changes, ensuring adherence to benefit plan programs and governing legislation
  • Ensure accurate processing of employee benefit deductions and employer contributions, while maintaining supporting files and accurate records
  • Assist employees with benefit inquiries and liaise with insurance carrier for resolution
  • Reconcile monthly premium billing and operating company cost center allocations
  • Administer employee pension and savings plan enrollments, terminations and changes, ensuring adherence to pension plan programs and governing legislation
  • Ensure accurate processing of employee pension contributions and employer contributions, while maintaining supporting files and accurate records
  • Assist employees with pension inquiries including eligibility, contributions, and plan details
  • Reconcile and transmit pension and savings plan deductions each pay period, ensuring accurate and timely submission
  • Actively participate in annual pension audit
  • Act as Recording Secretary on the company pension committee
