About The Position

The Shift Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable and economic operations of the electric distribution system. Plans, supervises and leads the Control Center shift team. Directs restoration activities to ensure a safe, timely and efficient response. Controls all activities in the Control Centers daily operation to maximize the integrity, reliability and continuity of the electrical distribution system while operating within assigned human resource budgets and schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years related technical work experience and three years supervisory experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years related technical work experience and three years supervisory experience or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years related technical work experience and three years supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of the electrical distribution system, Electric Operations and Construction, operation and restoration of the distribution system, required.
  • Strong computer skills and be familiar with storm restoration procedures, required.
  • High regard for personal accountability, and understand the critical importance of commitment to excellence, required.
  • Innovative and flexible with the ability to handle multiple assignments and meet stringent deadlines, required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to interact with customers, union personnel, executives, and other levels of management, required.

  • Within 8 months of date of hire, must progress to Qualified Distribution System Operator status by achieving a thorough working knowledge of the electric distribution system, Company and Departmental policy, procedures, legal & ethical requirements, safety and environmental practices and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word), OMS, NRG, EMS, ADMS, and other operational or Windows based software utilized in the Corporation, required.

  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Control Center experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Managing employees by expanding their skills through the proactive identification, development, and provision of appropriate training and leadership courses, while creating and supporting opportunities for individual and team growth.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required including serving as IC/OC during Class 1 ICS mobilizations, directing Company response during periods of elevated system activity, and performing all duties and functions of the DSO position when required to meet operational needs.
  • Commit to the ideals of developing a proactive, customer-centric culture to foster trust and confidence among customers and improve value for all stakeholders.
  • Ensure notification to all Company departments and/or outside agencies as required by procedure and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze and evaluate the performance and integrity of the overhead and underground distribution systems for both real time and post-contingency operation.
  • Oversee the safe and timely restoration of customers including tracking estimated restoration times to ensure accurate information is being communicated to customers.
  • Direct and enforce administration of the provisions of the collective bargaining contract and conducts union negotiation at the local level.
  • Function as liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Operate within O&M and human resource budgets by controlling expenditures and managing workloads. Recommend modifications to existing procedures and practices, which will affect improved electric service and/or lower expenditures.
  • Provide quality assurance by assessing the department's compliance to specifications, procedures, rules and regulations, identifying deficiencies and their root causes and correcting deficiencies for overall improvement to achieve operating excellence.
  • Aptitude Test Required (unless already a qualified DSO)
  • Due to the extensive training associated with this position, the department expects a two-year commitment that starts once the candidate qualifies as a Distribution System Operator.
