Position Summary The Grand River Energy Center Power Plant is seeking a highly driven individual to lead our Operations team. The Manager, Operations provides leadership to the plant operations personnel for the safe and efficient operation of power generating equipment under the general direction of the Sr. Manager - O&M.

Requirements

  • Must have valid state driver’s license
  • Strong technical and supervisory skills
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization, as well as outside customers and vendors.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively and handle multiple deadlines.
  • Requires excellent writing and composition skills.
  • Comfortable giving presentations before groups.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 10+ years of power plant or similar experience required.
  • At least 5 years’ experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel required.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
  • Must be skilled in coaching and developing direct reports and junior team members.
  • Must have knowledge and skilled in the use of personal computers with MS Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must be capable of methodical analysis of complex technical problems.
  • Must possess and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills.
  • Must be comfortable giving verbal presentations before groups.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direction for the operation of a multi-unit combined cycle and coal fired facility having a combined energy output of 1 GW.
  • Directs the activities of the Operations Supervisors and other personnel assigned to the operations team.
  • Provide oversight and support of a Management of Change (MOC) program, perform and/or coordinate assessments for proposed system modifications from an operations perspective.
  • Reviews and improves operational processes and ensures that operating personnel are properly trained and adhere to established procedures and practices.
  • Effectively organize work and projects with other departments.
  • Independently drives and cultivates leadership, teamwork, and employees to continuous improvement on efficient operations by monitoring and reviewing metrics to understand gaps and identify opportunities of improvement
  • Manage, track, and implement established technical training programs, as required. Develop new training, as needed.
  • Develops action plans to align employee accountabilities and conduct with operational processes. Continual improvement in processes and self-development.
  • Recruits, interviews, and assigns employment candidates and assures complete safety training and orientation for all operations group members.
  • Prepares operating department budget and/or makes recommendations to the Sr. Manager - O&M relative to operating and capital budgets.
  • Investigates operating abnormalities and incidents to improve equipment availability and performance and to minimize maintenance requirements. Lead root cause analysis and incident investigations as assigned.
  • Establishes department and group goals based on market dynamics and the needs of customers, employees, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure standardization and replication of best practices throughout the operations shift teams.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for Generation & Market Operations as well as the communication of production issues and information.
  • Creates, organizes, and maintains records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
