About The Position

The Operations Accounting Manager leads supervisors and team leads across key operational accounting functions, including Capex, LOE, G&A, ARO, ad valorem taxes, project services, real estate accounting, and FERC reporting. This role owns end-to-end processes, including month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls, while driving consistency, scalability, and efficiency. As a highly visible, operations-facing leader, the Manager partners cross-functionally with Operations, Land, IT, and other accounting teams, bringing strong oil and gas experience, technical expertise, and a continuous improvement mindset focused on automation, standardization, and building high-performing teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a similar discipline
  • Minimum of seven (7+) years of experience in accounting for an upstream oil and gas company with at least three (3+) of those in the operations accounting function
  • Five (5+) or more years of experience in progressive accounting or tax leadership roles
  • Strong working knowledge of oil and gas accounting and general accounting principles
  • Strong time management and project management skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and collaborative skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with internal controls, principles, and practices

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification
  • SAP or large ERP experience
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Minimum of ten (10+) years of relevant experience with an Oil and Gas upstream company preferred with at least seven (7+) of those in an operations-facing function

Responsibilities

  • Act as a key accounting partner to Operations, supporting Capex, LOE, accruals, and reporting inquiries
  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and team leads, fostering accountability and career growth
  • Build team capability through cross-training, delegation, and process clarity to reduce key-person risk
  • Drive accountability for deadlines, accuracy, and continuous improvement across functions
  • Oversee month-end close activities, ensuring timely, accurate results aligned with the close calendar
  • Oversee preparation and review of operated and non-operated accruals (Capex, LOE, etc.)
  • Drive high-quality variance analysis and reporting to improve clarity of financial insights
  • Identify and resolve close risks or bottlenecks while communicating key updates to leadership
  • Reinforce a strong internal control environment and support cross-functional initiatives (A&D, integrations, system implementations)
