About The Position

We are looking for a Manager, Operational Risk and Resilience Management (Manager, ORR – Canada) to support the effective execution, oversight, and ongoing maturity of operational risk and resilience activities within the Canada segment. This role is accountable for overseeing and enabling adherence to enterprise-wide operational risk and resilience programs designed at Lifeco, ensuring they are effectively implemented across Canadian business units in alignment with enterprise standards, regulatory expectations, and local business realities. The Manager, ORR will support the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of operational risk and resilience information, providing independent challenge and insight to the first line of defense while contributing to a consistent enterprise-wide view of operational risk and resilience.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of operational risk and resilience disciplines, e.g.: business continuity management, third‑party risk, business processing risk etc.
  • Experience analyzing and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative risk and resilience data to support effective oversight, decision‑making, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to operate effectively in an oversight and challenge role, balancing enterprise consistency with Canada‑specific business and regulatory considerations
  • Proven ability to navigate ambiguity and change, with experience supporting cross‑functional initiatives that require coordination, influence, and adaptability
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to engage first‑line teams and senior leaders on risk and resilience topics
  • Highly organized and self‑directed, with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining quality, consistency, and alignment to enterprise standards

  • Post‑secondary education preferred; equivalent experience in operational risk management will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Provide second‑line oversight of operational risk and resilience activities within Canada, including review and challenge of first‑line risk assessments, control effectiveness, and resilience outcomes, ensuring alignment to Lifeco frameworks and standards
  • Support the implementation and ongoing execution of enterprise operational risk and resilience programs, tools, and methodologies across the Canada segment, escalating issues where adherence or effectiveness gaps are identified
  • Analyze and report on operational risk and resilience information (e.g., risk events, root cause analyses, KRIs, scenarios, impact tolerances), translating results into clear insights and recommendations for Canada and enterprise leadership
  • Contribute to the ongoing maturity of operational risk and resilience practices by enhancing consistency, effectiveness, and quality of risk identification, control assessment, and scenario testing for Canada’s critical business services
  • Build strong partnerships with Canada business leaders, first‑line risk owners, and other second‑line teams, fostering a culture of risk awareness, preparedness, and resilience through education, guidance, and collaboration
  • Support audit and regulatory readiness activities for Canada, contribute to enterprise initiatives led by Lifeco, and track and report on remediation actions and resilience improvements
