Manager of Technology

Lab AlleyAustin, TX

About The Position

At Lab Alley, we rely on robust tech systems to power the solutions that help our customers get the chemicals they need easily. We are seeking a high-impact Manager of Technology who possesses the leadership grit and technical foresight to scale our digital storefront. The Manager of eCommerce Technologies is a "player-coach" role. You won't just be overseeing systems; you will be managing our external development teams, ruthlessly prioritizing project pipelines, and holding partners accountable for high-quality, timely delivery. You are the bridge between business goals and technical execution. If you have a deep understanding of e-commerce platforms (Adobe Magento a plus) and the ability to redirect the technical team toward the right solution, you will have an immediate impact on our goal to become the "Amazon of Chemicals."

Requirements

  • E-Commerce and Web Application: 5+ years of experience in e-commerce and IT systems, web applications, tech operations, or business technology coordination. Proven experience managing the backend or technical operations of a high-volume digital storefront.
  • Leadership & Accountability: Strong ownership mindset and ability to coordinate between business users and development teams. Demonstrated success managing offshore development teams (specifically in different time zones, like India) and holding external vendors to strict SLAs
  • E-commerce Mastery: Deep functional knowledge with e-commerce platforms and web applications. While we use Adobe Magento, expertise in Shopify Plus, BigCommerce, or Salesforce Commerce Cloud is highly valued.
  • Technical Literacy: You don't need to code daily but should understand basic programming and technical concepts (APIs, integrations, data flows, software logic) to write clear requirements and coordinate execution.
  • Project Management: Expertise in Agile or Scrum methodologies; ability to manage multiple high-visibility projects in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable using tools like JIRA/Asana to manage requirements, prioritize work, and track delivery. Strong stakeholder management and project timeline planning skills will set you up for success.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent real-world experience).

Nice To Haves

  • The "Player" Aspect: Hands-on ability to troubleshoot IT infrastructure (laptops, networks, security protocols) and manage SaaS stacks (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, etc.).
  • The "Coach" Aspect: High emotional intelligence and "grit"-the ability to push back on vendors when quality dips and the ability to train non-technical staff on new systems. Very solution oriented.
  • Process Mapping: Ability to visualize and document complex workflows.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform cost-benefit analyses on new technology investments. Ability to suggest pragmatic solutions balancing speed, cost, and long-term scalability.

Responsibilities

  • E-Commerce Platform Oversight: Support business teams by understanding workflows across departments and helping convert those needs into clear system enhancements or development requirements.
  • Tech and Platform Management. Work closely with the Austin and offshore Development teams to track development progress, align priorities, and ensure timely execution of all features and solutions to the platform to generate a ROI.
  • Accountability & Performance: Maintain operational accountability by tracking tasks, priorities, and deliverables across teams (Austin business + India dev).
  • Strategic Road mapping: Gather requirements from internal departments (Operations, Support, Sales, Purchasing, Finance, Marketing) and propose practical solutions.
  • Infrastructure Management: Maintain essential IT infrastructure, including security tools, and internal hardware/software systems to ensure seamless business continuity.
  • Technical Support & Training: Act as the "Player-Coach" by troubleshooting high-level issues and training the team on new software or hardware implementations.
  • Disaster Recovery: Ensure basic IT hygiene is followed (asset security, access control, password hygiene, and continuity processes).

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Supplemental Health Insurance, Wellness Program, Employee Discount Program.
  • 401k, Paid Time Off.
  • Organized team events, professional development, and clear career growth paths.
