Manager of Systems Integration

Daimler TruckPortland, OR
Hybrid

About The Position

The Manager of Systems Integration leads cross-functional integration of autonomous vehicle systems, owning end-to-end responsibility for hardware part release, software part release, and system-level releases that enable safe, manufacturable, and production-ready autonomous platforms. This role manages a core team of systems integration engineers and coordinates extended teams through service-level agreements (SLAs), ensuring disciplined execution across product development, manufacturing readiness, and vehicle integration milestones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline and 8+ years of experience in systems integration, vehicle integration, or complex electromechanical system development, preferably in automotive, autonomous systems, robotics, or heavy-duty vehicle platforms.
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience, including direct management of engineering teams and coordination of matrixed or supplier-based resources.
  • Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end product development and release processes, including hardware and software part releases and system-level integration milestones.
  • Hands-on experience with PLM systems (e.g., ELM or equivalent), including Bills of Material (BoM) ownership and release status management (E-, R-, and A-status).
  • Strong background in vehicle-level system integration, including power distribution, wiring architecture, cable routing, and physical packaging.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering efforts involving electrical, mechanical, thermal, software, manufacturing, and service organizations.
  • Experience owning or contributing to DFMEAs, production-oriented design (POD), and manufacturing readiness activities.
  • Familiarity with diagnostics integration, ECU fault management, and service readiness for complex vehicle systems.
  • Ability to define, track, and manage engineering execution metrics (e.g., CWOs, Shop Calls, Spec Generation) to drive predictable delivery.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to set technical direction, align stakeholders, and make sound tradeoff decisions.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguity-tolerant environment while maintaining disciplined execution.
  • An attached resume is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Prior experience integrating autonomous vehicle systems, ADAS platforms, or safety-critical systems.
  • Feature ownership experience for sensor systems, computer platforms, thermal management, or other high-integration subsystems.
  • Knowledge of thermal management and cooling strategies for high-performance computer hardware in vehicle applications.
  • Experience working with styling and industrial design teams on A-surface development and externally visible vehicle components.
  • Exposure to regulatory, safety, and homologation considerations for externally mounted sensors and autonomous vehicle hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a direct team of approximately 6 systems integration engineers, with additional matrixed and DTICI-based teams supported through formal SLAs.
  • Set technical direction, execution priorities, and integration standards across hardware, software, and vehicle systems.
  • Own Bills of Material (BoM) releases within DTNA’s ELM PLM system, including: Hardware design, Software releases, Parameters, Diagnostics and configuration (data codes).
  • Ensure alignment of releases with program milestones, E-status, R-status, and A-status requirements.
  • Own hardware packaging and full vehicle-level integration, including: Power network design, Routing of heavy power and signal cables, Wiring architecture and physical integration.
  • Ensure final system packaging meets functional, safety, manufacturing, and serviceability requirements.
  • Act as feature owner for sensor cleaning systems, including hardware integration, functional robustness, vehicle packaging, and coordination across electrical, thermal, and body systems.
  • Act as feature owner for compute cooling, ensuring adequate thermal performance, reliability, packaging, and manufacturability of autonomous compute hardware across vehicle operating conditions.
  • Define and manage integration execution metrics, including: Custom Work Orders (CWOs), Shop Calls (SCs), Specification Generation (Spec Gen).
  • Drive accountability, predictability, and transparency in system maturity and release health.
  • Partner with Styling and Product Design teams to coordinate A-surface development, particularly for the upper sensor bar and externally visible autonomous components.
  • Balance styling intent with system performance, manufacturability, and regulatory needs.
  • Lead systems integration input for Production-Oriented Design (POD).
  • Own and support DFMEAs for integrated systems.
  • Coordinate with plant teams on: Tooling readiness, End-of-line integration, Production validation activities.
  • Own ECU diagnostics integration, ensuring robust fault detection, isolation, and service support across vehicle systems.
