Requirements

  • Five years experience in theories and/or practice in Sterile Processing required
  • An understanding of the functions and relationships of the Sterile Processing and Central Supply and inventory management knowledge and experience
  • One year of supervisory experience or 3 years in a lead capacity required
  • Cert Sterile Proc/Distrib Tech OR Cert Sterile Process Tech Required at hire
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: Principles and practices of Aseptic and Sterile technique
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: Standards and practices of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: Applicable governing agencies requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: Medical and surgical terminology, supplies and equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: Appropriate computer systems and applications

Nice To Haves

  • Supplemental courses in Management, Sterile Processing and Central Supply are strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day operations, planning, organizing, coordinating and directing Sterile Processing Department and Central Supply Department functions and programs.
  • Responsible for ensuring that such functions are within limitations of laws, regulations and hospital policies and procedures related to specified departments.
  • Assists the Director of Materials Management, in the day to day activities of specified departments.
  • Coordinates assigning and reviewing of work, training and orientation of new staff.
  • Coordinates functions for decontamination, reprocessing and sterilization of instruments.
  • Coordinates equipment maintenance of sterile instrument sets/supplies.
  • Coordinates inventory management processes and durable medical equipment program.
  • Structures record keeping functions to assure compliance with Federal, State and accreditation requirements.
