About The Position

Moore & Van Allen PLLC, a dynamic and fast-growing full-service law firm of more than 400 attorneys and professionals, is seeking an experienced Manager of Research & Knowledge Management to join its Charlotte, NC office. This role is responsible for managing the library’s collection, systems, staff, services, and physical space, while serving as a trusted research and knowledge partner to attorneys and staff across the firm. This is a hands-on, interactive position requiring regular, in-person presence and close collaboration with attorneys, leadership, vendors, and external library partners.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of experience in a law library or legal research environment required
  • Strong knowledge of legal bibliography, legal research, and law library operations
  • Demonstrated supervisory and people management experience required

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and manage print and electronic legal resources
  • Research, recommend, and negotiate contracts for new legal research products and databases
  • Analyze usage data to optimize resources and proactively manage costs
  • Maintain strong relationships with legal publishers and vendors
  • Administer online research and reference services, including reimbursement programs
  • Provide research support to attorneys and staff as needed
  • Lead training and onboarding on legal research tools and library resources
  • Remain current on emerging trends in legal research, library science, and knowledge management
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate library team members
  • Prepare and manage the library budget, including expense analysis for print and electronic resources
  • Maintain an up-to-date automated catalog and oversee circulation
  • Ensure attorneys and staff receive ongoing instruction in library resources
  • Maintain deep understanding of library and knowledge management technologies
  • Make recommendations to improve systems, tools, and workflows
  • Support firm leadership with library-related space planning initiatives
  • Coordinate interlibrary loan services with external firms, law schools, and professional organizations
  • Work closely with attorneys, staff, and firm leadership to align library services with business needs
