About The Position

The Marion E. Wade Center is seeking a Manager of Publications and Publicity to serve as the managing editor for new and ongoing publication projects and to publicize programming at the Wade Center. This is a full-time, year-round position with an annual salary range of $57,000 - $62,000. The role involves significant editorial responsibilities for a literary journal, including manuscript evaluation, author correspondence, and coordination with printers. It also includes managing the journal's online presence and subscriptions. Additionally, the position will develop and manage the Wade Center's media presence across various platforms, create marketing and promotional content, and provide support during events. Occasional evening work and up to three Saturdays per year for college events are required. The position also offers periodic support to reading room and front desk staff.

Requirements

  • B.A. required.
  • Excellent writing/editorial skills.
  • Superior computer skills including expertise with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Competency in InDesign or other professional publishing software (e.g., QuarkXPress, Affinity, etc.) required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Project management and organizational skills.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Academic research skills and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience editing a literary magazine with experience as managing editor or editor-in-chief preferred.
  • Graphics experience.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS) highly desirable.
  • Experience in publicity, marketing, and social media management preferred.
  • Background and interest in the writings of the Wade authors preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the managing editor for a literary journal focused on the seven Wade authors, including intake and evaluation of submitted articles and reviews, email correspondence with authors and advisory board readers, and formatting of text.
  • Fulfill general editorial responsibilities including permissions requests, copyright registration, and coordination of publication details with the printer.
  • Oversee copy editing and proofreading.
  • Oversee the publication’s online and digital platforms as well as fulfillment of subscriptions.
  • Develop and manage the Wade Center’s media presence (e.g., blog, website, Facebook, Instagram, BoxCast, YouTube, LinkedIn, newsletter, Mailchimp emails).
  • Assist in creating content and materials for Wade Center marketing and promotion, including fundraising.
  • Offer periodic support during Wade Center events.
  • Offer periodic support to reading room and front desk staff.
