About The Position

Oversee the Public Safety Program at the hospital, and its remote sites. This program is responsible for the personal safety of the staff, patients, and visitors; the protection of the rights of patients/clients with interactions to the legal system; the physical security of the premises; enforcement of a variety of Hospital policies as well as Federal and State Laws; parking issues and enforcement throughout the main campus and remote sites; and a variety of other safety issues. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 2 years prior supervisory/management experience.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide effective participative leadership and be able to deal with the general public.
  • Must be able to work under sometimes stressful conditions while maintaining a calm composure.
  • Strong analytical skills required to perform various data analysis techniques, review statistical and budgetary information, and synthesize information appropriately.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years prior supervisory/management experience.
  • Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

  • The Manager is responsible for collaboration with all other hospital departments, community agencies including, but not limited to: fire, police, local building inspector, Town Administration, and the criminal courts, physicians, outside contractors, and any other entity dealing with the Hospital with regard to personal and physical safety/security.
  • The Manager is responsible for participating in outside agency programs such as TriEpic.
  • The Manager is responsible for overseeing staffing levels of the Department of Public Safety.
  • The manager is responsible for ensuring skill levels of Public Safety staff through the maintenance and continued development of a staff education and competency program. The manager will also coordinate broad and/or specific training for hospital caregivers on topics including but not limited to; Active Shooter, De-escalation, and Defensive Tactics.
  • The manager will chair a local Workplace Violence Committee made up of hospital leadership and various caregiver representatives throughout the organization. The manager will also participate in a UMMH system level WPV Committee.
  • Complies with established division and program policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attends a variety of meetings, conference, and trainings as required and/or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment or professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, clients and visitors.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Develop and maintain Department-specific Standard Operating Procedures within the Public Safety Department. Review of SOPs with Staff shall occur upon hire, and minimally, annually and when there are changes.
  • Collects data necessary to conduct investigations into all thefts and vandalism incidents. Assists in reaching a conclusion as to the causes and prevention of incidents.
  • Maintains responsibility of the electronic access control system including ID Badges.
  • Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.
  • Performs and monitors weekly and monthly inspections of Life Safety components, including all fire drills
  • Participates in all investigations into causes of accidents and injuries to visitors/staff immediately after notification of the same, and reports conclusions to the Manager/Director immediately.
