Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree, preferably in criminal justice or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a management capacity.
  • Strong leadership, cultural sensitivity, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in conducting independent investigations.
  • Understanding of the current and proposed legislation as it relates to private security providers, mandatory licensing and training requirements.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the Incident Management System (IMS) and incident management protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proven ability to work well with clients and colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Accreditation and/or experience in sexual assault investigations.
  • Experience in the education sector.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating private and public security services on campus.
  • Interacting with external emergency services and law enforcement providers.
  • Ensuring that all security personnel have appropriate licensing, training and documentation of qualifications.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day execution of duties.
  • Providing leadership to a 24/7 workforce.
  • Conducting internal investigations and following up on outstanding security issues by liaising with staff, faculty, and students.
  • Analyzing incident reports submitted by security providers and providing appropriate direction or recommendation.
  • Ensuring that current and relevant training is carried out for all contract security on site.
  • Developing, implementing and managing a comprehensive campus security framework that addresses security and safety on all Durham College and Ontario Tech campuses.
  • Maintaining operations and integrity of the C.C.T.V. and access control systems.
  • Defining and implementing policies and procedures that will ensure effective communication of emergency response and security procedures.
  • Being an operational member of the Emergency Management Response Team.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for external agencies including DRPS, EMS, and the Fire department in the event of an emergency.
  • Providing investigative support to the Manager of Student Conduct in response to allegations of non-academic misconduct while ensuring access to external remedies.
  • Participating in the management team’s daily assessment of incidents and determining and delegating to appropriate individuals or agencies for investigation and/or resolution.
