About The Position

Provides full support and oversight to all aspects related to payroll for the company. The Payroll Manager is also responsible to implement processes and procedures to drive accuracy and efficiency in both payroll calculation and payments reconciliation. Position has full supervisory responsibility for recruitment, hiring, retention, performance development, performance management, teammate relations, salary adjustments, and termination of direct reports. Will coach and develop team members to support company initiatives and teammate goals. Additionally, the position will partner with HRIS to oversee the support, maintenance and increased use of functionality of HCM system.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of seven (7) years payroll experience in a multi-state to include: Applying relevant laws; Working knowledge of accounting; Compliance with payroll laws, to include tax regulations; Strong knowledge of payroll operations
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively at both detail and big-picture levels and to drive projects forward
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with an acute ability to listen attentively and to communicate information clearly and effectively throughout all levels of the organization with audiences of varying degrees of familiarity with material
• Demonstrated ability to work well with cross-functional groups
• Demonstrated interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship-building skills; ability to interact positively with teammates at all levels of the company
• English proficiency. Federal, state, and local requirements, including U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, require training, safety communications, company policies, employment documents, and other job-related communications be conducted in English.

Responsibilities

• Create a standard payroll approval process to drive controls, from payroll calculation to bank cash out reconciliation. This includes both standard payroll earnings and bonuses and commissions. Modify and develop processes to create ongoing efficiencies
• Develop policies, process, and procedures to grant payroll compliance in multi-state environment.
• Maintain HR and payroll data integrity in the systems by running queries, analyzing data, and creating and running various audits.
• Manage special requests for Executives and/or HR - payments and special reporting including but not limited to complex annual bonus and stock distributions.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and prepare EEOC, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Multi-State Reporting and other statutory compliance as required. Stays educated on the latest laws and legislation (on the local, state, and federal levels).
• Partner with Legal to address employee compliance in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Payroll contact for legal cases for Labor and Law departments.
• Review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations
• Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.)
• Resolve accounting and reporting discrepancies and irregularities timely related to payroll including those within payroll system, the general ledger or any payroll related tax reporting
• Customer service via phone and e-mails. Helps with problem solving and research of payroll issues.
• Drive the development and coaching of payroll team members and ensure the payroll team members are cross-trained within the department
• Ensure system compliance with SOX and internal controls
