About The Position

Manages the day-to-day operation of the Nursing and Clinical Education Department. Provides guidance, establishes direction of program and services, and manages the budget associated with programming and service, policies, and practices of the function. Has hire and fire authority for the Nursing and Clinical Education staff. Responsible for assessing, designing, developing and evaluating Nursing and Clinical programs, training programs, development programs, and assigned special training projects, etc. Ensures competency and education of all clinical and non-clinical areas of the organization. Provides high level internal consultation to all levels of management and work groups related to clinical education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BSN).
  • Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Five (5) years nursing experience with at least one (1) year of which provided experience with teaching/learning methodologies.
  • Capable of translating strategy into specific goals, action plans, and deliverables by utilizing principles, methods and tools according to the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practice model.
  • Proficient in the Standards of NPD practice, including onboarding/orientation, competency management, education, role development, collaborative partnerships, and Research/Evidenced based practice and Quality Improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Related field.
  • Certification in Nursing Professional development or specialty.
  • Two (2) years for leadership or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Member of the management team and engages in strategic and performance improvement planning and responsible for the execution of that plan that impacts Nursing and Clinical education.
  • Supervises the work of the Nursing and Clinical Education staff by applying organizational personnel practices such as participate in the recruiting, selection, staffing, coaching, assigning work and appraising performance.
  • Develops, plans and implements the electronic biennial nursing and clinical learning needs assessment, disseminates results to leadership and develops educational plans utilizing multiple modalities to impact learning needs.
  • Oversees the planning, development, management, and evaluation of clinical education training programs and curriculum for employees.
  • Guides planning and execution of Nursing and Clinical Services Orientation for new employees, clinical programs, American Heart Association courses and other organizational programs and services.
  • Acts as a consultant to interprofessional leaders to guide planning and execution of educational needs, implementing new practices, designing processes and implementing organizational strategies.
  • Leads house-wide nursing education council and serves as a consultant to other nursing shared governance councils.
  • Facilitates the professional development of all staff and ensures competence by providing tools and templates for orientation, initial/hire and ongoing competence.
  • Facilitates the Nursing Services education plan for orientation, staff development, continuing education, competency validation, and academic experiences.
  • Engages in fiscal activities in order to ensure the availability of supplies, equipment, and human resources to meet clinical education needs in a timely cost-effective manner.
  • Determines strategic direction of clinical programs and services to ensure alignment with organizational needs and goals.
  • Supports an environment for innovation, creativity and empowerment with patient care delivery based on current best practice, literature and research.
  • Serves as a consultant to other departments and other health care institutions, agencies, professional organizational colleagues in matters related to orientation, continuing education, staff development, competency validation and education.
  • Participates in planning and implementing changes to improve productivity and decrease costs, through participating in meetings, task forces and committees.
  • Collaborates in designing educational plans and providing specialized expertise in the application of teaching/learning principles within the organization.
  • Identifies current and anticipates future educational needs and develops strategic sustainable plans.
  • Serves as a change agent in effecting appropriate changes within the health care delivery system.
  • Builds and expands personal and professional expertise by contributing to the growth of knowledge in the field of nursing, education and development.
  • Serves as a consultant and mentor to system hospital education departments and leadership by providing resources and developing education plans.
