About The Position

The Manager of Investments position will work collaboratively with other investment members in building out Liberty’s in-house investment capabilities for its long-term assets. This position is expected to play a key role in building Liberty’s portfolio and be involved in all aspects of endowment management including asset allocation implementation, manager due diligence and selection, portfolio reporting for various stakeholders, and special projects. The position will prudently monitor LU’s Investable Pools for Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI) in accordance with the approved BRI framework and promote the intentional selection of investment managers who meet the financial objectives within the IPS and materially align with LU’s Christian mission. This position is expected to travel to conduct onsite diligence, attend industry conferences and develop new relationships. The Manager of Investments is an onsite Lynchburg position. Therefore, the position is expected to professionally and actively participate in the Lynchburg community and LU’s on-campus activities.

Requirements

CFA required
At least 5 years of institutional investment experience.
Ability to leverage critical thinking, independent judgement and experience to constructively contribute to investment decisions across the portfolio
Clear investment philosophy, intellectually inquisitive and honest, with the ability to interview people and triage different sources of information effectively to form educated conviction
Ability to incorporate rigorous qualitative and quantitative analyses in the evaluation of investment strategies, investment processes, and investment performance
Strong communication skills and the ability to present perspectives and recommendations, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and logical manner
Self-motivated and directed, possessing an ability to motivate others
The highest level of integrity, honesty, and sense of fiduciary duty
Ability to articulate and defend the unique Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University and its subsidiaries to a wide variety of individuals and groups.
Individual must not be in default on any federal student or parent loan

May be required to travel locally within Virginia and out of state for conferences and/or meetings.

Responsibilities

Supports asset class leads in sourcing, diligence & execution including conducting market mapping for relevant strategy/sector and conducting investment due diligence analysis to form investment convictions based on thorough evaluation of competitive landscape, investment strategy, process, team, organization, track record etc.
Conducts both quantitative and qualitative investment analysis
Monitors portfolios, managers & performance drivers as a secondary back-up for the asset class lead
Participates in engagement with external managers (meetings, updates, due diligence)
Contributes to pipeline development
Prepares DD report and I.C. memo to support the selection or rejection for reasons articulated clearly in oral and written analyses.
Serves as the primary lead for assigned GP relationships and responsible for GP monitoring including reviewing quarterly letters and manager correspondence, attending manager meetings and AGMs etc., ensuring GP requests are responded timely and monitoring records are accurately stored.
Supports asset class reviews by developing appropriate performance & exposure analytics.
Collaborates with senior and junior investment members to support team goals.
Contributes to ad-hoc projects related to improving investment process, portfolio monitoring and operations.
Assist in selecting and onboarding data aggregator and risk tools.
Provides investment context for LPA reviews and ODD reviews.
Stays informed of industry/market/investment opportunities.
Supervises tasks assigned to analysts
Develops and maintains industry networks and peer relationships representing LU.
Actively participates in the Lynchburg community and LU’s on-campus activities.
Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
