About The Position

The Director of Investments supports the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) in overseeing the investment management function for the trust department. The role blends portfolio management, research leadership and daily investment operations. The incumbent will serve as a senior investment leader responsible for day-to-day oversight of investment portfolios, and responsible for the management and development of the broader investment team. Reporting to the Chief Wealth Management Officer (CWMO), the Director of Investments in conjunction with the CIO and Director of Research is responsible for the development, execution, governance, and continuous evolution of the organization's investment philosophy, portfolio management framework, and investment platform. The Director of Investments will help lead the team in creating and developing diversified portfolios to meet customized client objectives, provide mentorship and leadership of the investment team and partner closely with the Financial Advisor, Trust, and Operations teams to deliver consistent investment solutions that align with client objectives, fiduciary responsibilities, regulatory requirements, and the Bank's long-term strategic vision. The Director combines deep investment acumen with strong leadership, relationship management, and exceptional communication skills to support the portfolio management function of approximately $2 billion in assets under management.

Requirements

A minimum of fifteen years of progressive investment and portfolio management experience within wealth management, private banking, trust, or institutional investment management
Demonstrated leadership experience managing investment professionals
Experience managing sophisticated high-net-worth, fiduciary, and institutional investment relationships
Extensive knowledge of investment management, portfolio construction, capital markets, economics, fixed income, equity analysis, and asset allocation
Extensive experience in selecting and evaluating investment managers across all asset classes
Demonstrated experience leading investment strategy within a fiduciary or wealth management environment
Strong understanding of trust administration, fiduciary responsibilities, OCC Regulation 9, securities regulations, and applicable banking regulations
Proven ability to analyze complex financial markets and communicate investment strategies to both technical and non-technical audiences
Excellent leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
Exceptional relationship management and communication abilities
Ability to influence across multiple departments and build collaborative partnerships
Commitment to delivering exceptional client experiences while maintaining sound investment discipline
Must have cyber security awareness to protect the digital environment, the Bank, and customers

Nice To Haves

Master's degree (MBA or related discipline) preferred
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation strongly preferred
Additional fiduciary or investment-related designations (CTFA, CFP®, CAIA, etc.) are considered beneficial
Experience serving on, or leading investment committees preferred

Responsibilities

Manage a select book of investment management relationships while maintaining primary focus on departmental leadership and investment oversight.
Serve as a primary investment contact for assigned relationships, communicating portfolio strategy, investment performance, market conditions, and recommended changes to clients and internal relationship partners.
Participate in client review meetings and collaborate with Wealth Officers and Financial Advisors to provide coordinated wealth management solutions.
Identify changes in client circumstances, objectives, or financial needs that may require modifications to investment strategy or broader Wealth Management services.
Model the department's portfolio management standards and best practices through direct management of assigned relationships, providing a practical example and resources for other members of the investment team.
Contribute to the development and execution of the department's overall investment philosophy, portfolio construction methodology, and strategic direction.
Monitor approved investment platform, including equity, fixed income, mutual funds, ETFs, alternative investments, and other investment vehicles.
Monitor capital markets, economic trends, interest rates, and geopolitical developments to guide investment strategy and tactical portfolio positioning.
Provide thought leadership regarding asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection, and risk management.
Partner with CIO/CWMO to Establish investment standards and best practices that promote consistency across the organization.
Working with CIO/CWMO Evaluate new investment products, strategies, and technologies that enhance client outcomes and operational efficiency.
Provide oversight of portfolio management activities across fiduciary and investment management relationships.
Ensure portfolios are managed in accordance with client objectives, governing documents, fiduciary obligations, and regulatory requirements.
Review portfolio performance, asset allocation, risk characteristics, and investment consistency across the department.
Serve as senior investment consultant on complex, high-net-worth, institutional, charitable, and sensitive fiduciary relationships.
Participate in significant client meetings involving sophisticated investment matters or complex fiduciary situations.
Partner with Wealth Officers and Financial Advisors in developing customized investment strategies for clients.
Coach, mentor, and develop the investment team while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
Work with CIO to establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and professional development plans.
Promote knowledge sharing and investment education throughout the department.
In partnership with the CIO/CWMO identify future leadership opportunities within the investment team.
Foster an environment of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and exceptional client service.
Collaborate closely with the CWMO & CIO to execute the strategic vision for the Wealth Management division.
Partner with Senior Financial Advisors, Wealth Officers, and other business partners to deliver integrated client solutions.
Support new business development through investment education, portfolio recommendations, market commentary, and participation in client presentations.
Work collaboratively with Operations and Compliance to improve investment workflows and operational effectiveness.
Serve as a trusted investment resource across the Bank and Wealth Management team
Collaborate with CIO & Research Director on the following activities: Due diligence, security research, and ongoing monitoring of approved investment strategies.
Maintenance of approved investment lists and model portfolios.
Evaluation of third-party investment managers and recommend additions or changes to the investment platform.
Monitoring portfolio performance attribution, investment risk metrics, and benchmark comparisons.
Ensuring investment decisions are supported by disciplined research and documented investment rationale.
Support the continued growth of the Wealth Management division by participating in business development activities and prospect meetings.
Represent the investment team during presentations to prospective clients and centers of influence.
Develop market commentary, educational presentations, and investment communications for clients and internal partners.
Strengthen referral relationships through collaboration with internal business lines and external professional advisors.
Represent the Bank within industry organizations and community activities.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of investment regulations, OCC Regulation 9, applicable securities regulations, and industry best practices.
Ensure adherence to investment policies, fiduciary standards, compliance requirements, and internal controls.
Partner with Compliance, Risk Management, and Internal Audit regarding investment governance and oversight.
Recommend updates to investment policies and procedures as regulatory or market conditions evolve.
Ensure appropriate documentation of investment decisions and committee actions.
Provide strategic direction for the Investment function.
Manage departmental resources effectively while maintaining a strong client service culture.
Build strong partnerships across Wealth Management and the broader Bank.
Promote innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
