About The Position

The Financial Aid Manager is responsible for coordinating and communicating all financial aid aspects for medical (MD) and physician assistant (PA) students at Creighton University. This role involves providing financial aid counseling on an individual basis from pre-matriculation to graduation, planning and delivering a financial literacy program to promote student financial wellness, and processing departmental financial transactions while assisting with budget management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Higher Education Administration or a related area required.
  • 3+ years of financial aid counseling and/or financial literacy experience required
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to manage a budget, financial records, p-card processing and scholarship funds.
  • Experience interpreting and communicating complex financial information in a clear, supportive, and approachable manner to small and large groups of students.
  • Computer proficiency (specifically, Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal/human relations/communication/listening skills necessary
  • Organizational/planning skills a must
  • Ability to adapt to work environment changes and relate to diverse populations
  • Ability to assess situations, prioritize needs and tasks, and assist, counsel, and act accordingly
  • Writing and editing skills, and ability to interpret oral and written instructions

Responsibilities

  • Meet with all students interviewing for medical school, including medical and PA students, to discuss federal financial aid and scholarships, cost of attendance, budgeting, and credit reports/scores.
  • Present to students at Open Houses, Admitted Student Days, and Orientation sessions.
  • Be available to all matriculating, current and alumni students via email, phone, or walk-ins to provide financial aid counseling.
  • Provide information on financial aid deadlines, requirements, and cost of attendance.
  • Troubleshoot issues with financial aid processing, disbursements, refunds, and student accounts.
  • Present mandatory Financial Literacy curriculum tailored to each year of a student’s medical school experience.
  • Provide mandatory Exit Counseling to all graduating medical students and PA students with medical school debt.
  • Provide optional one-on-one personalized loan exit counseling for graduating students to discuss tailored debt management and repayment strategies.
  • Oversee School of Medicine Scholarship budgets, applications, and awards.
  • Prepare information for the School of Medicine Scholarship Committee and others, as requested.
  • Management of the Student Affairs department budget including the coordination of budget planning and budget compliance.
  • Processing of financial transactions.
  • Leading and managing the preparation and submission of the LCME Part-IB Financial Aid Questionnaire for both campuses.
  • Provide mentoring, supervision and budget review for the business managers of School of Medicine student organizations which may include routing contracts, manage p-card transactions, and pay invoices.
