About The Position

The Manager of Engineering Leads MVEC's engineering functions by directing engineering design, GIS, construction planning, project delivery, inspection activities, and reliability programs for the cooperative's distribution system. Oversees engineering standards, construction specifications, project quality, system reliability, member cost allocation practices, and regulatory compliance, including RUS requirements, while ensuring infrastructure projects and line extensions are designed, evaluated, and costed appropriately. Drives infrastructure improvements that enhance safety, operational performance, and service reliability in alignment with the cooperative's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities. The Supervisory Team is empowered to successfully lead MVEC’s day-to-day operations. The Supervisory Team spends most time on operational tasks, are subject matter experts for their areas and suggest “what’s” and develop and implement “how’s”. Leading by example, the Supervisory Team’s focus is to: Empower and retain successful Team Members ensuring cooperative objectives are met. They effectively establish priorities, develop processes, and manage resources. Help review and maintain accurate cooperative policies and procedures to follow. Be responsible to proactively resolve issues and implement programs to further MVEC’s strategy. Be responsible for recruit, onboard, train, coach, evaluate performance and provide disciplinary action of direct reports, including decisions related to reward, transfer, suspension, promotion, or any commendation-related action. Work cooperatively across departments, communicate effectively and be responsive. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • In-depth knowledge of distribution system engineering and planning, construction and operations
  • Familiar with safety codes, Rural Utilities Service (RUS) requirements, and other standards that apply
  • Ability to work with diverse interests and be able to collaborate when making objective decisions
  • Good analytical, interpretative, interpersonal, complex problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Certified in D.O.T. Drug and Awareness (or able to obtain within 6 months)

Nice To Haves

  • 7 years of experience in distribution, substation, generation, transmission or planning engineering
  • 5 years of supervisor/leadership/project management experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and coordination of day-to-day engineering activities, including engineering design, easements & permitting, staking, GIS, construction planning, inspections, and project support. Oversees engineering workflows, project priorities, design quality, consultant coordination, and engineering documentation to ensure infrastructure projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and in support of member service and operational reliability.
  • Provides strategic oversight of engineering standards, system reliability initiatives, GIS development, construction planning, capital improvement projects, and infrastructure investments. Ensures engineering designs, work plans, and project priorities align with cooperative objectives, regulatory requirements, long-term system needs, and cost-effective service delivery.
  • Provides oversight of Construction Work Plan development, project prioritization, cost containment, and resource utilization. Monitors project costs, evaluates alternatives, and supports capital investment decisions to ensure infrastructure projects are delivered efficiently, within budget expectations, and consistent with cooperative financial and operational goals.
