This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage. The position is within the Solid Waste Services Department and involves supervising the activities of the Engineering and Planning Division. The role serves as the Department’s Project Manager for large design and construction projects (over $100 Million), which are often controversial and sensitive environmentally and to the public. This requires significant coordination with stakeholders, public advocacy groups, state and federal agencies, and other Municipal departments. The position entails professional engineering and management work requiring considerable independent judgment and initiative in planning, design, location, construction, and maintenance of Municipal structures associated with solid waste management. It is also responsible for environmental management and regulatory compliance at all active and closed sites. The position exercises supervisory responsibility for four other positions: an Engineer II, Engineering Intern, Engineering Technician I/II, and an Engineering Technician III/IV.
