Manager of Business Development

NucorCharlotte, NC
Onsite

About The Position

The Manager of Business Development plays a key role in Nucor’s M&A and strategic growth efforts, participating in all stages of acquisitions and strategic investments from opportunity identification through evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, approval, and execution. Responsibilities include researching target companies, industries and markets; developing financial models, valuations and investment returns analyses; conducting and coordinating due diligence; evaluating transaction structures and key commercial terms, including negotiation of terms such as purchase price adjustments, escrows, indemnities, earnouts, and representations and warranties; and preparing recommendations and presentations for senior leadership and, when appropriate, the Board of Directors. The Manager also supports Nucor’s product groups in evaluating and advancing strategic initiatives, including greenfield and brownfield investments, joint ventures, new products and markets, and other growth opportunities. The role requires close collaboration with Nucor executives, divisional leadership and teams across operations, commercial, engineering, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Accounting, Environmental, Human Resources, Information Technology and other functions. The teammate will also interact directly with business owners, target company management teams, investment bankers, attorneys, accountants, consultants and other external parties and is expected to represent Nucor professionally while maintaining strict confidentiality. Success in this role requires strong financial and analytical capabilities, including an understanding of accounting and tax concepts relevant to transactions, sound business judgment, intellectual curiosity and the ability to turn complex information into clear, well-supported recommendations. The teammate is expected to challenge assumptions, identify the factors that most influence value and risk through scenario and sensitivity analysis (e.g. evaluating downside, base and upside cases and stress testing key assumptions), and maintain a high standard of accuracy and rigor in work used to support significant capital allocation decisions. The Manager is also expected to use technology, automation and AI appropriately to enhance the efficiency and quality of the work while independently validating information used in decision making. Business Development operates in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment where priorities and timelines can change quickly. The position requires a strong work ethic, ownership, schedule flexibility and the ability to perform under time-sensitive deadlines. Travel is required as necessary. The role provides broad exposure to Nucor’s businesses, leadership team, industries and markets and is intended to develop the teammate for future leadership opportunities throughout the company. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
