About The Position

The Manager of Buildings, Grounds, and Security reports to and works under the general direction of the Director of Facilities Management and Campus Planning. This position works closely with the Manager of Facility Operations and Compliance and directly supervises maintenance technicians and custodial staff. The Manager is responsible for overseeing campus safety, building maintenance, grounds maintenance, housekeeping services, and related facility operations to ensure a safe, functional, and attractive campus environment. Responsibilities include performing maintenance activities, responding to emergencies, coordinating vendors and contractors, managing staff, and supporting the planning and budgeting of facility-related projects and services.

Requirements

  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and mobile work order applications.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and contractors.
  • Strong organizational, supervisory, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, climb stairs, and use ladders for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull loads up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of Building management experience, preferably in an educational of clinical setting.
  • Degree or certification in facilities management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee campus safety and security operations.
  • Respond to emergency and unplanned situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Monitor and respond to building alarm systems.
  • Coordinate building evacuations and emergency notifications.
  • Respond to inclement weather events and implement measures necessary to ensure the safe operation of campus facilities and grounds.
  • Recommend staffing levels and operational adjustments necessary to maintain the security of buildings and grounds during operating hours (6:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., seven days per week).
  • Perform and oversee general maintenance tasks throughout campus facilities.
  • Conduct daily inspections of buildings, classrooms, and related equipment to ensure proper operation and appearance.
  • Identify maintenance and housekeeping needs through routine inspections and work requests from the College community.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate department and coordinate corrective action.
  • Coordinate event setup and breakdown activities, office relocations, furniture moves, and equipment transfers.
  • Assist with unloading deliveries and maintaining the overall appearance of campus facilities and grounds.
  • Supervise and direct maintenance and custodial personnel.
  • Delegate assignments and monitor performance to ensure facilities are properly maintained and staffed.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to staff as needed.
  • Recommend staffing changes or additions to meet operational and security requirements.
  • Schedule and coordinate the work of tradespeople, vendors, and contractors.
  • Direct contractors to work locations and communicate project requirements and expectations.
  • Verify completion and quality of work performed and ensure services meet College standards.
  • Work directly with the Director of Facilities Management and Campus Planning to develop and manage budgets related to maintenance, housekeeping, campus safety, and facility repairs.
  • Maintain appropriate inventories of maintenance supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Utilize College vehicles as required to perform assigned duties and support departmental operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities Management and Campus Planning.
