Manager, New Product Commercialization

PennEngineering®San Jose, CA

About The Position

PennEngineering is seeking a motivated, excited, individual to be a part of the Corporate Commercial Team. As the New Product Commercialization Manager at PennEngineering, you’ll collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things. Join us as we build the future in Manufacturing and Engineering! The New Product Commercialization (NPC) Manager owns the journey from unmet customer need to revenue-generating products. Sitting at the intersection of customers, engineering, marketing, and sales, this role identifies the market problems worth solving, builds the business case for solving them, and shepherds new products from incubation through commercialization until the sales team is trained and selling with confidence. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role for someone who is equally comfortable in front of a customer, in a business-case review, and on an engineering floor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, marketing, or a related field.
  • Secondary language proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
  • Proven experience in product commercialization, product management, product marketing, or new product development.
  • Strong business-case development and financial-justification skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer needs into technical specifications.
  • Excellent cross-functional leadership and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.
  • Willingness to work non-standard / odd hours to support global teams and customers across time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Discover unmet needs and define the problem.
  • Uncover and validate unmet customer needs through structured market research, voice-of-customer interviews, and emerging-trend analysis.
  • Develop and pressure-test solution hypotheses against real customer pain points before committing resources.
  • Author clear, engineering-ready specifications that frame the problem statement, success criteria, and constraints.
  • Drive the NPC Commercialization Process.
  • Build the business case that justifies New Product Development (NPD) investment, including market sizing, financial projections, and risk assessment.
  • Validate solutions with early adopters to confirm demand and sharpen the value proposition before scaling.
  • Pitch vetted opportunities to engineering, channel partners, sales, and senior leadership with a clear, evidence-based rationale.
  • Equip the sales team through structured training so they can sell the product confidently from day one.
  • Partner with New Product Development Engineering.
  • Co-develop solution concepts with NPD for outbound launches, balancing technical feasibility with commercial viability.
  • Prioritize NPD programs using NPD classification taxonomy to ensure a balance of engineering and commercial resources are applied to ‘right size’ engineering and launch efforts.
  • Stress-test every NPD program against three questions “is it real, is it worth it, can we win it?” — before greenlighting.
  • Enable and support the sales team.
  • Train and certify the sales team on each product’s value proposition, competitive positioning, and ideal customer profile.
  • Join customer visits as the subject matter expert (SME) during launch to accelerate deals and build credibility.
  • Provide hands-on field support and feedback loops that drive early adoption and surface improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with marketing to translate NPC launch strategies into demand-generation and trackable metrics.
  • Align messaging, positioning, and campaign timing with key commercialization milestones.
